3.1 Out of the box... already?

    I got a new iPhone 3gs i6gb today from o2.
    And in settings -> about the version says 3.1 (7C144)
    Is this the os version or is it something else?
    I didn't think that they would ship with the new firmware so soon?
    I would like to be able to unlock it at some stage, if the dev team come up with a 3.1 unlock will it work with phones that shipped with that version?

    I just received a 3GS 32GB yesterday and I was able to unlock it. I think it had the 3.0.1 software on it. When I connected it to iTunes it gave me the option to upgrade but I selected No. I was half expecting it to ship with the latest firmware.

    I imagine that they had load of 3.1 phones/ipods ready to ship. Was near impossible to get one in the week running up to the event.

    In fact, it's impossible to get near any apple hardware in Ireland atm. There are month long waiting-lists and suppliers haven't received anything but pittance in months.

    Saw a post on the o2 forums listing the shops that were getting stock today, lots were.
    I went in and the girl didnt even know they had recieved an order :)
    today was the first time i went into a shop looking to buy so i was lucky.

    Battery is def worse than my 2g btw, hopefully can downgrade at sum stage.

    ..Or hope for a better upgrade...

    Battery life is still the main drawback of these devices. But with that massive screen and some of the games out for it now, I guess it's the nature of it.
