Need to ge tthis out of my chest....

Just got home from the shopping centre in Blackrock. I was leaving with a heavy load of groceries on my bicycle and when I tried to exit the way cars leave I noticed there was no ways bikes could leave unless the barrier was lifted. I press the button and:

    - yes?
    - Hi, I am on a bicycle with some heavy stuff, could you let me out?
    - Sure, one second

Barrier starts going up and I start exiting... only that as soon as I am under it it just slams down on my head.

I stop for a few seconds thinking if I should just leave or go talk to the guy. I go back, press the button, and

    - Yes?
    - You just slammed the barrier on my head
    - No, I didn't
    - What? (blood starts to boil)
    - I didn't do it, the gate is automatic
    - The gate didn't even finish opening completely and it closed again!

Guy starts talking loud and non stop. I am getting really pissed off, but can't get him to stop talking

    - Yo! Are we going to end this with me going to the garda station and complaining, or with a simple apology from you? It's your call

    silence.....

    - I am really sorry sir!
    - Thank you

People who witnessed the whole thing look at me and say that such a thick guy shouldn't be operating even a barrier.

Rant over, feeling better, just a small lump on my head.....

I would at least go to his supervisor and report the incident. What a clown!

Were you wearing your shopping helmet?

That's incredible! I'd definitely take the complaint further.

This sounds funny actually...like why did you insist on going out the way cars go?would it not be more convenient to wheel your bike out the foothpath way???

No offence intended, but that sounds hilarious. In fact I have three friends that would be well capable of such infantile amusement.

(Hope no-one was injured in this merriment)

On another time maybe, but I have too much on my plate a the moment. I would have been happy with a simple sorry about that, my finger slipped"

There actually is no footpath at that exit, except for little way for pedestrians with stairs (to cross under the road). I had never gone out that way before, but there were too many pedestrians at the other end waiting for the traffic lights.

I am sure I will be laughing at it tomorrow also, but not sure I get it...where is the "infantile amusement " you are you referring to?

Out of curiosoty, was it the Frascati centre or the one with the Superquinn in it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,693 ✭✭✭Zynks

    The Superquinn one.

They probably have CCTV on the exit, so if you do want to report it to the Gardai (assault) or his higher-ups, there may well be evidence to support you.
