Just wondering how shares can be bought but not online?
I prefer to do it the old fashioned way. Is it a matter of walking into Davy's or Bloxham's etc with a cheque?
Can anyone give names of best companies/advisors for doing so?
    Cheers

Don't use a cheque. Get a bankdraft. Otherwise it'll take a few days for the cheque to clear and you can buy shares.

Secondly you must bring a form of ID, passport etc and a bankstatement showing your current address on it.

This is for anti-money laundering. Then just say what shares you buy to buy and your away!! From then on all you have to do is ring up your assigned broker and buy and sell as you please.
