Tallaght car sales - bane of my life

    Start rant:
2 years ago i bought an Audi A6 1.8T 2001 from a Tallaght garage, small opreration and not sure if i can name and shame on this thread?

within its 1st year (approx 8 months) i had major issues with the engine and timing belt. I'll begin with the latter, upon purchase the dealer told me "The timing belt has been changed already which will save you a grand or so" happy days i thought (nievely i never checked the log book) - lesson learned. This indeed required replacing.

Also, the turbo had massive problems and needed repairing and pipes replaced. Not only that the turbo problem caused Oil problems, gasket problems, cam shaft oil seals, CV boot etc etc an entire plethora of issues hit my wallet.

Only for another problem to appear last night, now the oil pump has given up. I bought the car with trade i @ €9,000.. throw the repair on top of that and I have spent a further €3,500. Insult to injury I have now been told its a further €1,250 for oil pump.... WTF!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that but there's a chance of further work to be done to the cylnder head gasket (if pump isn' the only issue).

    End rant...

So what the fook do i do? I am enraged at being sold such a lemmon of a car. I have an uncrontrolable urge to burn the Tallaght garage down to the ground. That or I would love to name and shame them so no one every buys from them again they opitomise the term "Cowboys".

    thoughts?

I havent read you post fully, but how is a CV Boot related to a Turbo? Its a wear and tear item, that will need to be replaced anyway. Its almost like asking for a new set of tyres because your old ones are worn.

What kind of a warranty came with the car? Were any of teses problems repaired under warranty, or did they all appear after it had expired?

given the age of the car at the time of purchase 6yrs old it was probably 6mths warranty which was 2 months before probs started always a pain in the rear!!!!

    Really feel your pain!!!

In fairness to the garage in question, any problems which arise 2 years after you bought it are not their fault. And if reliability is paramount then Toyota are worth considering.

yeh problems all started after the garage 3 month waranty.

to be honest i am convinced the car was a post wreck fixer upper.

I've noticed poor paint job over one of the wheel arches....

any hoot, its fecked and i am going to have to cough up a 1k to get her fixed. I miss her so and just can't afford a new one!

Why didn't you do a thorough check on the car before you purchased it (Body especially)?

    Max

Go to another garage and get a quote if they piss you off go somewhere else.

The CV joint is not related to the turbo its a joint on the drive-shaft and happens.

The turbo is going to be expensive there not a cheap component to replace or have re-furbished(by a specialist).

How often was the oil changed? This is one the main reason turbos poo themselves?

I dont understand the gasket problem i assume you mean turbo/exhaust gaskets which are normally replaced when the turbo is removed.

Also a timing belt wont necessary be recorded on the log book and is major pain in the arse of a job on those cars.

To be honest if you get all that work done for a grand you are doing well.

    Best of luck

Options are lift the engine out or strip half the front of the car.

OP I sent u a pm asking the name of the garage.

In Feb I bought an MG ZR for 3100 off these cowboys in Tallaght.
Three days later the head gasket blew (I had no warranty) some b*llox tryin to get them to fix it. In the end I coughed up another 600.

One wk later the battery gave up (another 100)

Last wk had to get new centre box and back box as they had been rusting away for nearly a yr-didn't have a clue- (another 300)

Along with other little problems, front passenger window doesn't close fully, knobs broke, radio aerial fell off..

I bought a lemon of a cowboy also.
    I feel your pain.
