-Posted this in Literature at first but I think my question is more suited to this forum...maybe.

    Guys,

My question is not related to this book it is to do with the cd that comes with it. Background on me is I was in a relationship for 4 years which ended recently and since I have struggled to regain any of my past confidence despite being over this person. I find the book great what I'm wondering is how do people use the cd, do you actually listen to what he is saying and do what he's asking or is it best to ignore everything and let your "unconscious" take it in. Personally I find it difficult NOT to listen to what he's saying which is making feel like I am not getting the full benefit of the cd.

Has anybody used this cd? Any feedback welcome, thanks.

If it's self-help that you are looking for then I'm not sure this forum is really the right place but I'll leave the thread open for others to respond to. :)

I'm pretty sure I know the book you are talking about. I believe that it is pretty similar to most, if not all, meditative CDs. You are supposed to enter a state of relaxation and allow the messages to sink in of their own accord without putting effort into it.

Your best bet is to be completely away from distraction. In bed, lights off (or small lamp on), curtains drawn, comfortable and breathing deeply but consistently.

Try meditating without the CD at first to get used to the feeling and processes of meditation.

If this is a major problem for you then it might be worth seeing someone to talk things through with them.

Apologises for posting here but to be honest I find there's so many sub forums it is very hard at times to know where to post something. I appreciate you leaving it open for response though :-)

I have tried the lights off, silent location and relxation mode but for some reason I cannot get into the trance state. I find myself too often getting into the habit of fixing my mind on a sentence he has just said then I really struggle to stop listening to the rest. Maybe I just need more practise. I think it's just a personal issue I have, I am one of those people that at night will hear a sound i.e clock ticking and suddenly then find my mind focussing like crazy on that sound for the night. I had to remove the batteries from my beloved Liverpool clock because of this.

Hi SeamyH, all these hypnosis CD's are supposed to be listened to in the way you are listening to it. In hypnosis you hear and pay attention to what's being said.

The thing with Paul McKenna's CD's is that the hypnosis induction is quite brief and some people would benefit from a longer induction. The best solution to this is to learn self-hypnosis and take a little time to get yourself into something of a self-hypnotic trance before listening to the hypnotic part of the CD. Doing a 15-25 min progressive relaxation technique and visualisation beforehand would help. I'm sure there's lots of free info available online for these.

Also don't get too hung up on the idea of a trance state. There is no evidence for the neurophysiological existence of a "trance state". Which is not the same as saying that there is no neurophysiological differences during experiences of hypnotic phenonema, but the "state" view of hypnosis is not currently popular among the academic thinking in the area.

A tip that may help is that when I am reading hypnotic scripts and visualising my performing them with a client I tend to become deeply relaxed and hypnotised myself. Reading such induction and deepening scripts may have the same effect on you.

If you wish to read more about hypnosis here are a couple of good sites with fora and discussions you can read:
    http://www.hypnosisforum.com/
    http://www.hypnothoughts.com/

The best of luck with it, and if it doesn't work out remember it's not your fault. There are many forms of help available, hypnotherapy is but one, and often some counselling can help tremendously in life.

I have used many CD's over the years. I find lying on bed and using ear phones to be the best for me. I do listen at the start but once relaxed more I just zone out and next thing I notice its 20 minutes later and the CD is finished about 10 minutes lol.
Dunno how others do it but thats my expirience anyways.
