Advice please: insuring my car in UK

    Hi all,

I really advice on insuring my Irish car in the UK.

UK insurance is a condition of registration with DVLA, but a UK reg is a condition of insurance. It's a vicious circle.

The only broker I have found who offers insurance on chassis number (providing a cover note to DVLA) is called AJ**.

They've quoted me £839 fully comp on a 10 year old clio -- that's 50% of the car's value and absolutely nuts. Third party is £859! Both through Royal & Sun Alliance.

So, has anyone experienced this before; and are there other brokers/insurers doing chassis cover notes on imports?

**if you google them, you can tell their marketing people have been busy drumming up business on uk import websites

Why not just reregister the car on UK plates? It won't cost much (if anything) and you can reregister the car again here FOC whenever you want.

Because DVLA require evidence of a UK policy before you can get UK plates

Wouldn't a UK ins co give temporary cover on the basis that you'd have UK plates within a set timeframe?

We were faced with the same problem a few weeks ago but got insurance with Quinn Direct UK no problem! Every other website clammed up when I put in the Irish reg but Quinn Direct was fine, no problems, we have recieved the policy too so it's for real!!! :D

Have to say it's pricier than any other company but it's handy for the couple of months we'll need it.
