Need a Commissioner of Oaths This Weekend... Are They Available?

    Hi,

I need a Commissioner of Oaths to sign a document this weekend for my girlfriend. She works in Belfast during the week, so there is no way for her to get it done during the week. I was wondering, do any solicitors provide this service on the weekend?

    Cheers!

There are commissioners for oaths in every city and town. Many of the lay commissioners for oaths are available at weekends as they may work in places open on Saturdays. Some display brass plates showing that they are commissioners for oaths.

All practising solicitors can also act as commissioners for oaths. Most solicitors offices are not open to the public on saturdays, but many are likely to be working behind the closed doors for some of the weekend.

Suggest you contact court services offices or any solicitors office before c.o.b today - e.g. 5 p.m..

Please note that the solicitor/commissioner for oaths has to certify that (s)he knows the person swearing the affidavit, or knows ==== who certifies his/her knowledge of the deponent. The standard fee is ten euro.

And if that doesnt work some peace commissioners are also commissioners for oaths.

Try the local Garda station, they should have a list of lay people who are P/C and COO.

Not necessarily. Since 1994, all practising solicitors have the same powers as a Commissioner for Oaths.

Long established Auctioneers are also a good bet in most towns.

All qualified solicitors are automatically commissioners for oaths, but the older system allowed for lay people to be, once a petition was made to the courts with a number of signatures saying these people were of good standing and of good repute etc

The Court Service may be able to help you (www.courts.ie) or your local garda station. Failing that, the Law Society of Ireland (www.lawsociety.ie) might be of some help either.

Usually to get a standard affidavit signed, its about 12-15 euro

It is €10 per Affidavit and €2 for each exhibit.

Make sure she brings along ID
