3G wifi access point

There are 3g mobile phones which act as broadband modems and which have wifi - are there any which connect to the internet and then act as a wifi access point?

Are there any add ons which provide this feature (such as car kits) or provide ethernet ports?

If you have a Windows Mobile Phone (like SE Xperia) you can get an application for the phone which will make it act like a wifi access point.
Is that what you mean?

That's the idea - I'd like to be able to set up an internet connection when travelling, shared between 2 or 3 people. I mentioned car kits because I can already charge my laptop from the car.

Yeah the Xperia would do it for you, just keep the phone charging as it will suck the life out of the phone having it do that.

Well the phone needs to have wifi, but yes software only.

I think the latest Symbian OS phones can do it too like N96/N97, but not sure, as I havent used Symbian
--> Just checked and the N95 can be setup as a WLAN HotSpot using the JoikuSpot application

the odd day i connect my phone to the laptop and set up the laptop's wifi as an AP. great for wiresharking too

Might be a bit more versatile that the phone only soln. but having used neither cannot vouch one way.

If you cannot get a software solution on the phone, you could probably teather your phone to one of the laptops, and setup an ad-hoc access point on the laptop to share the connection.

I've done this with my Nokia E71 and previously an E65 using either Joiku as mentions above or WalkingHotSpot.

Only issue I've had has been with my eeePC not liking the hotspot when I have it booted into Linux, works fine when I boot that into WinXP though.

doesn't need to be ad-hoc, you can set it up as an actual AP
