    Hi Guys,
    Wierd one here.
Working off xp with my n110 netbook connecting to a chorus wirless lan.
Everything was going great til a few days ago, when *something* happened. I dont know what, cant remember anything.
The symptoms are: Internet works fine for a few mins, then dies. utorrent is still downloading away, but firefox or IE wont reload a page no matter what i do.
To fix it i either restart, or do the 'Repair' Wireles lan connection.
Either way is annnoying and time consuming.
Any idea's whats causing it and how to fix?
I've checked my Tcp Ip settings and its all DHCP based so my IP is assigned by the router and something like 192.168.1.6. That much works fine and i doubt theer's a conflist on the lan..
    What coudl it be?
    Thanks
    John

Disconnect any devices using your Wifi Router. Reboot Wifi router.

    Then reconnect to the network.

If uTorrent is still connected and downloading away, I would suspect that that is your problem. Sounds like it has too many nodes connected and is throttling your connection for everything else. I know I had this before with BitTorrent and ended up having to set max download and upload speeds as well as max connections to sort it out. Though this was when I was on a much slower line.

Spot on. uTorrent is not configured correctly.
You can configure uTorrent to only use a certain amount of connections.

    Take from a thread here

    - Ran the Speed Guide (Ctrl+G in µTorrent) properly?
    - Disabled IP resolving in the Peers tab?
    - Restarted µTorrent after disabling DHT?
    - Try disabling UPnP?
    - What firewall are you using, and have you tried uninstalling it?
    - Tried lowering the global maximum number of connections to 200? 100? 50?
    - Lowering net.max_halfopen to 4?
    - Patched TCPIP.SYS and restarted the computer after patching (this assumes you run Windows XP w/SP2!)?
    - Restarted the router after doing any of the above?
    - Connect directly to the modem to make sure it's not your router?
    - If turns out that it's not the router, what modem are you using?

Internet should be fine with uTorrent closed.

Is there anyone else in the house using the same connection who might be running a torrent client? Is there a particular time of day that the internet seems to be slower even if you aren't using torrents? If there is it could be down to your contention ratio of your internet connection.

Do you do much downloading? Depending on your connection package and who you are with, if you have gone over your download cap for the month you may be getting throttled by your ISP, and they know you will have been downloading so could be hitting you hard as if you go over your cap frequently you are making it unfair on any neighbours sharing your contention.

try a live linux distro on your machine. if this works fine then you rule out any hardware issues. othe than that turn off av and firewall and try again.

Seen that problem before with a Chorus customer. your torrent software has too many open connections, so when your browser tries to get online, the extra connections get dropped. Remove utorrent from StartUp folder.

    Resetting the router fixed it...
Problem is that the router is next door and we cant always access it.

Anyone know of a fix to stop utorrent gobbling up all the connections?
    Ta! :)
