hi there,...am noticing my low self esteem is starting to cause trouble in work for both me and those who work with me...

am a great worker but i think im crap. everything i do i think is crap. i wake up somenights thinking 'i should have done that' or 'i didnt do enough work today' and promise to go in early next day only to arrive and desk and mind is completely blank...its a vicious circle.

for instance last year at work i was training a girl to take over my job when i left...she did something on her own initiatve one morning and i lost it(completely) saying things like 'well i mise as well leave now so shall I no need for me'...the boss acually had to take me aside and tell me calm down and that i do a great job.

Same happened today when someone was sitting on my desk talking to the boss and i got paranoid and said 'fine i'll go home so will i? not needed here'...had visions of them talking about how bad a job i was doing and how it could be done better.

no one can say anything to me about my job and I take it so personally..

My life isnt perfect and maybe its all part of it...am the office clown and have a big personality and am always getting(especially in new jobs) Employee of the Year etc....

whats wrong with me? help me to work with people better especially those i see as a threat

I think from time to time all of us tend to focus too much on the things we could have done better and play down the things we did well. Try to focus more on the skills and qualities that others clearly see in you.
    • Your boss has confidence in you by telling you that you do a great job.
    • You've earned employee of the year award.
Clearly you have alot going for you. Be positive and if you have close friends and family perhaps they can also reassure you.

All the best. I hope everything works out.

If your job pays for your VHI they offer an employee assistance program where you can actually get counseling sessions. I got them when I started having panic attacks at work and found them very good. Have a chat with HR and they may have some options for you.
