i wont be going back to college this year as i have to repeat a few subjects so i'm working for the year and hopefully making lots of money:cool: so i'm thinking of upgrading my hornet to a .204/.223 or .220 swift, just wondering what rifles would you recommend, i'm not too worried about the calibre yet, just the rifle, i'm thinking of spending abt 2 1/2- 3k altogether inc scope and maybe a moderator if i have enough change left over but i'm not too worried about that yet, it will be used for mostly lamping and grey crow/magpie shooting, i'm thinking something like a remmy vssf ii http://www.shoot.ie/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=71 i handled one of these before and i liked it but it ain't light and its about as heavy as i would go for
or maybe a sako 85 like this http://www.shoot.ie/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_24&products_id=152 i never used an 85 before but the 75's are smashing, preferably i'd like a stainless barrell to help combat the weather but it still wouldn't stop me buying a normal barrelled rifle i'm just pondering about the idea at the moment and just wondering what ye would advise for that money

ya i was thinking about that, i've never used 1 or even know anybody that has one so i dont know what the availability of ammo would be like around my area, seemingly very popular in england so i might aswell add it to the list. how do you find the remmy john? i hear very mixed reports about them, some love them and others hate their stocks, triggers... etc etc, prefer to hear it from you seen that you actually have one

Im using a Ruger 77 mk2 220 swift with Swift 8-32x50 scope, harris bi pod and Reflex t4 and would not swap her for a bar of gold:D
I know boys that have a Ruger 204 and Howa 223 and they would not swap either!

I like my Remmy, I'd be happy to keep it for as long as I need a rifle because it shoots and kills what I aim it at if I do my part within my own capabilities (there's a sentence for ya).

I found the factory trigger fine, a lot of people complain bitterly about it but again it did the job just fine. I changed it for a Jewell because I always wanted one.

It's heavy. Mine is the VL SS model with the thumbhole stock. No problems to report aside from a dodgy extractor which I must get fixed but... If it were that much of a problem I'd have done it already.

Am happy out with it. It's certainly not the best ever but it does what I want it to.

back when i bought the hornet i was looking at a ruger, she was a smashing rifle but i hadn't enough for her and bought the hornet, and regretted it since, although its a great rifle, although it aint light either as its about 3.6kg it just hasnt the power for the foxes around here, just cant get em in close enough so need the extra bang

what model remmy was it because i hear the cheaper models are only fit for the bin, how much do you pay for the swift ammo

i think for general pricking about its hard to beat a 223. the 22.250 will cause you problems unless you have deer stalking or are a member of a target club.

the swift is hard to run as is the 22.250 .the 204 is also expensive to run kinda brings you back to the 223.

i would like one but i thing my super yould cut out.

ormondprop as your from Tipperary then drop into Stakelums, Railyard, in Thurles and get your hands on some guns to try side by side they stock a good range of rifles. I have a CZ varimnt and find it very good fro the fox and target shooting.

I know that Stakelums took in a very good VZ varmint with a laminated bedded custom stock lately and it's threaded for a mod. Give Sean a buzz.
