hey, i did my FE1s last year and am looking for the dreaded apprenticeship but finding it bloody impossible. Anyways, i think i should get professional advice on my CV and was hoping someone could recommend someone who is good at this and perhaps who deals specifically with law cvs if thats possible. thanks

It was very good but the best thing about it was that the guy interviewing me absolutely grilled me which was great because going into actual interviews i was thinking that it couldnt possibly be as bad as carr so it was great mental preparation. They record the interview for you and then play it back and talk you through it.
Suffice to say I didnt use anything they taught me because the questions I was asked were completely different and the interviews were much more relaxed. Ended up getting a TC so I have to say that as far as mental preparation goes, carr were good.

I availed of a similar service, to no avail in the apprenticeship hunt. Just posting to show there are two sides to every story!
With the benefit of hindsight, I personally believe that such courses aren't worth doing. Doing one won't secure a job, and I just didn't find it as useful as I expected.
In relation to CV writing, surely it's the applicant's accomplishments that catch an employer's attention, and not the manner in which they are written. A CV is intended to merely be a list of personal accomplishments anyway.
Even the advice I received with regard to a "proper" cover letter was not as useful as I first thought, and, if I'm honest, a bit outdated from a consultant who I regarded as experienced! Also, I still needed to put a "personal slant" on it, which resulted in me rewriting the letter!
Also, although dante's interview training may have been useful, any friend or family member grilling you would be equally effective, and, ...talking into the mirror is as helpful with issues like good posture and demeanour as video, believe it or not!!

Although I know it's good to feel prepared, my own advice is to save your money, sure isnt there a recession on :p

I believe that CV layout etc is a factor for companies recruiting now. Numbers of applicants are so high since the numbers of places have dropped that any small reason to exclude CVs will be used. Badly laid out or unclear CVs will fall into this category.

Thats not hearsay, anyone who works in HR or recruitment in any firm will tell you the same.

    It's worth considering, that's all.

There is plenty of information on the www..... Employment websites etc.

Don't pay for the pleasure, but a book at the very least.

In fact the law society have hired a career guidance counsellor who might help. It's a free service for qualified solicitors. I'm not sure where you'd stand with them.

Good luck with the hunt for a training contract. I dont envy you one bit!
