So, story is, Im in 6th year this year and hoping to go to Galway next September. They reccommend to book accommodation well in advance (Jan/Feb) but they have loads of different villages, I was just wondering what's the difference between them?? Thanks!:pac:

I'm not sure about the rest but Corrib village is very basic accommodation but it's good craic and very handy to get to the college(about a 5 minute walk).

Corib village is perfect for first year and a great way to make friends....its a 4 min walk to the uni..its on campus really..they are starting a shuttle bus servie to uni from it soon though..

Gort is across the river 5-10 min walk...its a bit pricey but nice apartments...this would be kinda 2nd yr and older students there... its a pain walking across the bridge in the ran though and guramteed ur umbrella will break in the winds.... Cúirt is in the same place and same idea... they have Dunnes directly across from them and highly overpriced local shop in the Gort/Cúirt village...

Yeah across the river there is Gort and Cúirt na Coirbe and then beyond that is the Menlo Park Apartments....

That is where I am now and it is alright, there is a shop nearby and you are close enough to the college, about 10-20 mins, depending on how fast you walk

You could always apply for a house close to the college??...:p

The only real experience I have with student accommodation in Galway is Corrib Village, but I stayed there one summer with a soccer team and not for college. It's very basic and last year there was a lot of bother there, what with broken windows and damaged property. If you enjoy your sleep you might want to avoid Corrib Village.

In my first year I left everything too late and ended up getting a room in a house with a bunch of random people. It wasn't a problem for me though. I've actually made some good friends as a result. I found it a lot cheaper too. ;)

Weigh up all your options - some posters have already posted some suggestions of specific student accommodation which are definitely worth checking out.

Im living in corrib at the moment and I think its a must for any first year beacuse of the amount of new people you meet and its so close to the campus.

    The parties are good too!;)

im in first year atm and made a big mistake by not booking corrib village!
I spend all my time down there now! its such a good way of making friends, parties are legendry and theyr basic, but not as bad as theyr made out to be! i mean in fairness, its student accommodation!

'Block B is the place to be' - heard someone say that during one of the nights and it was quite true, met so many people there (and subsequently forgot that I had met them, leading to some confusion :D).

Tbh I can see myself moving into a house by Christmas at the rate things are going, people I'm living with are just ignorant and can't actually factor in the other people they're living with at all. I'd say Corrib is fine if you get remotely mature roommates and there's always the fact it's quite close to the Uni but otherwise I'd go for a house. That's just my experience so far though

I do agree with you to an extent.
I mean last night my flat mate (2nd year) arrived home at 3 with all her drunken freinds making sooo much noise and stuff until 6... i had a 9o'clock lecture. its not the first time shes done it either... so yeah its just if you can, live with people you know and who you trust, but definatly corrib is the place to be for socialising. and if all else fails, do what i do and go down before security every night! :)
