Contact lenses and showering

I've only just started to wear contacts and I've been advised never to shower while wearing them. Basically because of the possibility of an eye infection which can come from tap water. I'm wearing Daily disposables by the way.
Is this good advice then or over cautious? I only ask because I'll be wearing them to football training and won't be able to jump in the shower after.

I shower with mine on. I go swimming with mine on
(Not in the sea though, thats a big no, no)
I have never had an issue in the last 5 years... You can get an infection, but you can also get an infection from putting your finger in your eye! Just dont rub soap / shampoo into them and you'll be fine :)

You do not shower with your contact lenses in!!

You are told explicitly NOT to shower or have water come in contact with your lenses due to the bacteria in water.

Maybe you should google the possible outcomes of such infections caused!!

    Its only your eyes afterall!!!
    Treat them with care!!

Conflicting opinions there. i did take a shower after football tonight but didn't wash my hair or let any water near my eyes.
I might just play it safe for now then.

Ciba Vision disagrees with you. From here:

Can I shower in my contact lenses?

Yes, you can shower in your contact lenses, however, you should use caution because shower water is not free of any microbes or other impurities that may harm your eyes. Close your eyes while rinsing, and if you do get anything in your eye while showering, such as soap or shampoo, CIBA VISION recommends that you remove, clean and disinfect your lenses. In such an incidence, daily disposable lenses again should be replaced with a fresh new pair. If any redness or soreness persists, contact your eye care professional immediately.

I wore contacts for 11 years and showered and swam with them in with no problems. I was told by the optician that they don't advise it but as someone else said there are lots of other ways you can get an infection too.

I worried about it the first time, and not once since....
As I said before, your just as likely from getting an infection if you rub your eye, it rains, you get splashed by a car.

The point is, You Can shower with them, its not recommended, but you can.

Worry about waht much easier to leave them in. Would be driven to distraction if, I had to being solution etc every time I went to the gym, to swim, to play football. In fact carrying the case in your smelly gym bad. I'd say you are increasing the risk of infection in all the additional unnessesary handling.

They are just covering their arse so if you do get an infection from your lense they can find a way to hold you culpable.

I've been having worry free showers for years and I swim with lenses in - it's lovely to be able to see where you're washing and be able to admire the local scenery in the pool :pac:.The risk of Acanthamoeba keratitis is extremely low with only about two cases reported per million contact lens wearers - that's a probability of .0002 % ! That percentage includes good and bad practitioners of contact lens care so you can reasonably assume that the probability of a serious eye infection is even lower if you look after your lenses. Tbh it's a risk I'm prepared to accept for the comfort of being able to see what I am doing.
