My laptop is broken, its a very simple problem but according to the repair rackets it's gonna cost me too much to get fixed.

Anyone reckon they could fix it (and i can make it worth your while)?

Basically, i dropped it! And it's cracked at the side. The socket is broken internally so it needs to be replaced. These parts only cost like €20 but they want almost €200 on top of that for the cost of fixing it.

    Any takers?

(btw, if anyone is reading this from this thread, its a different laptop)

How bad is the damage? What socket are you talkin' about? Has it been opened to check what exactly is wrong with it?

Those parts usually cant be replaced individually, sounds like you'll need a new motherboard hence the expense

    They are normally soldered on.

You would just have to solder on a new one, an engineering student would probably be better than a comp student but soldering isnt too hard but it can be very tricky, try it yourself:

Theres also the chance that the socket has ripped the tracks off the mobo. If that hasn't happened and the socket has just broken away cleanly from the solder, then just get a loan of a soldering iron with a nice, small, clean tip, around 15-30watts and it'll only take you a minute or two.

sounds like a job for a professional, if you over heat the motherboard with a soldering iron ,,,,well you will turn the laptop into a bookend!
