    HiMy name is Fiona and I am studying a Masters in Tourism. I choose to do my thesis on responsible tourism. Could you please help my research by completing my survey.     I'm not sure that this is the correct forum for your post - could you elaborate a little on what your research entails?

    I am writing a thesis on responsible tourism and the survey ask questions about an individuals holidays, criteria they use to choose holidays, what they do on holidays etc. If they have heard of responsible tourism they are asked to agree or disagree with statements relating to the term. It is completely anonymous and I am happy to provided the results here or privately if anyone is interested. The survey is up on several forums that are travel and/or green related. I hope that answers your question, if not let me know.

    Well, the reason I ask really is because we generally don't allow people to post links to surveys and like. However, I'm prepared to leave the thread be if you're happy to discuss your research with other posters, which you seem to be, so we'll see if an interesting discussion develops.

    Did you mean that Responsible travel is about making the tourist feel smug for their behaviour?

    My answer would have been the opposite if this is what you meant.

    I meant it as tourists being made to feel guilty. I have covered smug or the 'ego-tourist' in my secondary research as I felt I might not get a true response from a survey. On the other hand, being a responsible tourist 'to feel good about myself' rather than smug would have made a nice question.

    Do you think that tourism has a future? As in do you think it is sustainable? Back in the bad old days before we had cheap oil only the absolute upper class got to go on holidays. Could a return to that be on the cards?

    I am a big fan of going on bike tours and people sometimes tells me that is sustainable. But I don't think so. The cycle tourist relies on being supplied with a lot of cheap food for instance.
