    Hi Folks,

The band I'm in will be relasing our debut EP over the next couple of weeks and want to try and sell it in shops. We were thinking about selling it for 4.99(I think thats ok for 6 songs). We were thinking of giving the shop 2 euros which is 40% and keeping 4.99 ourselves (which is 60%). Can anyone give us any advice?

    Thanks,

    Connor

Most of the bigger shops will have predetermined rates/charges for the selling of CD's, and are generally not subject to change. They also wont take it unless there is a barcode.

How do you get a barcode?

You buy them, usually in bulk but I have heard of sites that you can buy a barcode from. That said, most duplicators will also offer an option to buy a barcode from them.

To get a barcode the easiest way is to buy one from a duplicator who usually buy's them in blocks of 1000, or else a company who can sell you a barcode is called GS1, don't know where there situated but think it's dublin somewhere, i'm sure you'll find it if you google it. I'd also advise to contact PPI and get the ISRC codes off them which they will issue you with. These codes need to be embeded in the cd on each track if you are going to be making it downloadable and they are free to get but ring them as there usually kind of slow if you just e-mail them

I have just sent our EP off to print. Got the Barcode from barcode.ie cost 59 euro with the number and the image bar. took about 4 hours to be emailed to us.

You can contact Danielle in PPi ltd to get the isrc code. i can Pm you the number if you need it. Dont think they allow open numbers on the forums here. She will give it to you on the spot.

Hope thats some help.. Best of luck with it
