Just got it off my girlfriend and already half way through......always a huge fan of the film (which I always thought was so under-rated...probably just cos Depp was in it but anywho........) just pity I didn't get the book before I saw it!

    Already a favourite!

    Anyone else thinkin the same???

I picked it up in London when I was over there last. Please don't ruin any of it for me! ^_^ (Like I don't know what happens!)

But so far it's an amazing read!

Halfway through it at the moment. I'm going nice and slowly through it (taking the the info in the appendix after each chapter).

    It's great. Absolutely engrossing.

Like the OP I got it after being on holiday in London...

I was about to buy my copy in Dublin city centre yesterday and the two main comic shops (no names) charged respectively 38 and 39 euro for it. Ended up ordering it from Amazon.co.uk for 19.97 Pounds including delivery. That's 21.9 eurons to you and me. I can't really fathom how these shops operate in Dublin.

Dublin is one of the worst cities I've experienced regarding both the price and selection of books available. In many developing countries they have a massive range of English language books with an asking price of 1-2 quid (perhaps it doesn't help that I'm a cheapskate student). And graphic novels are the worst. Handing over 25 euro for one book pains my wallet.
Sorry, that was an off topic rant but the Irish book market irritates me! I am very tempted by From Hell, I didn't realise it was originally a graphic novel until I saw it in London recently but didn't pick it up. Loved V for Vendetta and Watchmen so I guess it's time for me to stop being an Alan Moore noob and read one of his lesser known works. How important is it to know the general Jack the Ripper story prior to reading the graphic novel?

It all depends on how engrossed you want to get in to it to be honest! I'm sorry that that's a clichéd answer, but this is the kind of graphic novel you can just pick up and read without needing to know the history at all! (Still reading it, as mentioned earlier............taking my dern time!......Other flashy things keep getting in the way and my magpie sense takes over. :pac: )
