I literally have to leave england because my Irish Insurers won't extend cover to england, obviously i said id pay more but they wouldn't even quote me. I have 2 years no claim bonus. Never claimed before. Their English counterpart Insurers won't quote me because i don't have my car registered over here and since the damn postal service is down the DVLA pack to register my car i requested a week ago still isn't here.

Therefore i have to leave england because my insurance runs out tomorrow. One nice cheap company in england quoted me £2500 for a years insurance and then said i have to pay import duty of over a GRAND because my car is less than 3 years old.

So here i am just booking my ferry home, after starting my job a week ago, after paying a months rent 2 days ago on a new place, after just getting a new english phone yesterday. To rub salt in the wounds my insurance broker over here showed me his insurance and said that all english insurers automatically extend their cover for 12 months no matter what european country your in. Irish insurers will even insure english reg cars no bother.

So Screw you *****nian ***va for ruining my next month or so and wasting my money!

Should you not have checked that out before you emigrated?

So basically, you're angry at insurance companies because you didn't have the foresight to look into this before you moved over there. Nice.

Im angry at my insurance company because they have certain better rules for english customers and crap rules for their irish customers. I can't get the bus because i need the car for business travel and for going home to ireland because the nearest airport is 60 miles away.

It's par for the course in Ireland, that insurance companies treat their customers like dicks.

how about renting a car, selling your car and buying a english reg car, get a taxi.

loads of other options. what good does it do you to drive home. just leave the car parked and find another means of transport.

I haven't emigrated. I am temporarily living over here for around 6 months and will be going back to ireland every month or so with the car and for a few weeks at christmas.

Forgive me for asking but why not get another irish company to quote that will extend it to england? Or have you tried?

And what do i do when i want to eventually bring the car home>? Put it on a truck and Ship it? I'm sure that'll be cheap to do.

sounds like you weren't inquisitive enough when planning your move tbh.

raw deal, but planning ahead ftw. Is their no other options. sell your car and buy a cheaper one in the uk, or a moped even till you get sorted? Coming home seems a bit rash.

I have tried and irish companies WILL NOT extend it to england. You have one month's holiday cover in another country and that is it.

I don't know which is dumber, moving to England without looking into this kind of thing FIRST, or moving back after getting a job and a place to live just because an Irish insurance company won't cover you in another country, when there are so many other options.

Someone needs to post a facepalm pic of epic proportions ASAP.

I'm not moving back im bringing my car back. Your dead right though i should have realised insuring a standard 1.4 golf in another european union country would be impossible.

Contact your insurance comany again. You say you will be bringing your car back once a month?

Most insurance companies offer you up to 30 days EU cover at a time,so if you come back within 30 days you can head off again for another 30 days.

If there was a claim all you would need to do is show travel docs to prove it.
