Winter coming, rain's a coming and i need to be ready. I usually wear shorts, a t-shirt and old pair of skate shoes. I have a good altura jacket so figure I need

Waterproof shorts - I'll be getting Enduras for this, probably the cheapr camoflage one's

Overshoes - cheap Adidas ones form the CRC sale

    Padded bib?

    Thermal base layer?

Any recommends for these, as cheap as possible without scarificing quallity.

BTW I have overtrousers but don't wear them cos find them uncomfortable, need something that I can get rained in and will dry quickly in work . In other words I wanna stay in shorts

You don't need waterproof shorts, you need mudguards. Best bet for colder weather are bib tights (like Spiderman.)

You shouldn't really continue to wear shorts throughout the winter, it can cause knee problems (I am already into my tights.)

Get down to Aldi for the thermal base layer, about a tenner

Aldi have their bike stuff on sale today.

Although its Aldi it is very good quality. I am a keen cyclist and you cant go wring with their gear for cycling to work or training.

I use Gore Alp-X waterproof shorts for commuting. I like them. They're not completely waterproof, but good enough.

My back protects me from the old wheel water, it's more cloud water I'm worried about.

I'm really looking for actual product recommendations

aldi has waterproofs at the moment, and you can usually get waterproof trousers and windbreakers in dunnes etc. you dont really need a specific brand i feel

The Endura waterproof shorts are fine for commuting.

I think it's worth investing in a decent base layer. I use merino ones, got one last winter in Aldi for €20, was in with the ski stuff. Icebreaker, Rapha and Endura make very good merino base layers if you're willing to spend a bit more. Well worth it, as with a bit of care they last ages and don't stink like the man-made base layers do eventually.

DHB bibs are cheap enough. I wear tights over bibshorts or my Endura 3/4 bibs in the winter (with MTB shorts on top for commuting) Hate having cold knees or a cold arse.
