i everybody im lookin for some help i inherited a collection of hundreds of coins and banknotes collected over the years by my uncle.i know some of these are quite valuable as the price of over 2000 punts is still on some of them.but the ones that stood out to me were the gold 20 dollar coins there is about 10-15 of them all in absolutely new condition.i looked up one of them a while back and seen it as worth 10,000 pounds could this be right?i cant seem to find the site again.
thanks you in advance for any advice or help

Avoid touching any of them, a finger print can destroy the value of uncirculated coins and whatever you do, do not attempt to clean any of them. Apologies if you know this already, but you'd be surprised how many non collectors don't. I'm assuming your uncle had them well stored individually, so best to leave them as they are. Theres a coin fair coming up at the RDS in October, you should bring up a sample of each and get them valued.

yes there all sealed in a briefcase type coin album with locks on them. i seen that i was thinking about going to it just out of interest. I have no interest in selling whatsoever but id like to know if there worth hundreds or thousands.if you know what i mean. i know the 20 dollar gold coins are definatly worth a few bob but the rest of them im still none the wiser.

    thanks for the replies

I can give you valuations on any Irish ones but for anything else you could look them up on the net. I really think you should go to the fair and find out what you're sitting on there, it sounds like you have a very valuable collection. Even just for insurance and security purposes, you should put them in a good safe, not something that can be ripped off the wall. And personally I wouldn't be mentioning them to any randomer in the pub :)

in the webite links thread i posted this

    link
    a guy set this up
its basically the krause catoulouge... you might find a few you can see krause catoulouge values.

your uncle sounded like a serious collecter with the locked suitcases etc...

I think it would definitely be a good idea to get more than one valuation, if coin collecting is anything like militaria collecting then in Ireland all the dealers know each other quite well.

Maybe photograph the collection and mail the pictures to some perhaps, london based dealers, to get a 2nd opinon.

If they are that valuable it would be more than worth some extensive shopping around if you are considering selling.
