Democracy in Europe

Just came across this article on the independent.co.uk website. I don't know anything about the autor or his views but I think he makes some valid points. Also I think there are some interesting parallels between the european political system and our own. What do others think about Hamiltons conclusion and what is the best thing to happen in order to ensure as democratic and at the same time efficient EU as possible. (I'm not looking for a debate on the lisbon treaty! ) Opinions welcome...!
