Hi wondered is there any other sceptical people out there like me ? heres the story a great fella or girl is looking for sponserhip , usually 3k or 5k , to go a
nd climb the rockies, walk the aztec trail , cycle thru the sahara , etc etc. does anyone else think that these heros are just gettin a free holiday ? when they collect that 5k all their expenses are paid , the professional charity workers employed all get paid , does anyone know how much of the 5k would actually go to the good cause.?

Are they asking you personally for 5k? Or are they asking you for a euro or two?

If it's the latter, then STFU.

Pfft.............I hate these guys "ah will you sponser me €20 so I can go abroad and have a fantastic experience, instead of being here in ****ty Ireland....and oh its for charity!"

    Hows about...NO...go and f*ck yourself!!

    or

Hows about you go and raise 5k and donate it all to a worthwhile charity, you scrounger.

Im not saying that people shouldnt give money to charity but it seems that the number of these foreign fundraising trips is increasing ??

"A 10k walk through the bogs of Ireland in the January rain" - Would get more money from me

Don't those things usually work like this:
    Person pays their own way
Person also raises money from friends, all of which goes to the charity

    ?

The funniest ones are when some studenty type posh girl tries to claim that she is off to Africa to build a hospital or whatever

    Like what the fcuk

She isnt a fcuking builder, if you asked her to do something like cut the grass here she's probably be worried about ruining her UGG boots or getting her fake tan messed up

The natives in wherever she is going to might be poor and uneducated, but surely the young men there would be a hundred fcuking times better at building houses or whatever than some irish wan that has never done a days work in her life

Most of the money raised for those holidays, go on flights, accommodation, staff, minions to carry bags.... Usually a third goes to the charity and the person gets a fab holiday/experience.
These people sicken me, if they were that interested in charity they would give it all and relinquish their walk on the great wall of china/ Sahara etc.
Real fundraising is hard work and really worth it when it goes to a great cause, not for a holiday for some stupid prick.

Thought this was going to be a how-to scam thread. Y'know - handy for getting a bit of extra cash in for the holidays.

    Poor Show.

These so called "charity" outings are usually there for guilt ridden rich types to allow themselves to have an "experience" in a distant land whilst assuaging their guilt by giving something to a charitable cause.

I do think, however, that tough slogs for charity - like the English woman with cancer cycling up all those mountains in Europe or someone sailing across the Atlantic single handed - are really worthwhile because a lot of personal sacrifice goes into these.
