I'm not sure a clutch is covered under the terms of the warranty as it would be seen as a wear and tear part.

You should ring Hyundai Ireland to verify if the 5 year warranty is valid here and if a clutch is covered under it.

The clutch won't be covered as the wear on it is determined by the driver. 55k miles isn't too bad for a clutch, but you're going to have to cough up for it. Have you had the car from new?

    Hi
I have the car 2 years but i think tis the fly wheel if that makes a difference a friend of mine also has a Tuscon and her fly wheel went the same symptoms as mine but a newer car and her dealer covered the repair.
    thanks

The Flywheel may indeed be the issue and would be covered for the full 5 years of your warranty, and if the clutch goes because of the flywheel fault then you will be covered of course.

The 5 year warranty is European wide and will be covered in ANY market in Europe, once you provide proof of purchase date. You would need to get the car diagnosed in a Hyundai dealership.

I was the Hyundai Warranty Manager for 4 years so I know what am waffling on about :)

Not necessarily. If you remember the Santa Fe Diesel giving problems with the flywheel then you`ll remember that Hyundai didnt cover a clutch if it was over 50,000 miles as they judged 50k to be a reasonable mileage to get out of a clutch. From 30k-50k it was 50/50 on the clutch price and under 30k they covered a clutch.

Customer paid for the clutch but since the flywheel was coming out there was no labour charge.

    .

Thats not entirely true, the clutch was 100% covered up until 60 months. It was only on the models which did not have the 'problem' flywheel did the contributions come into play, as Hyundai knew the end users had knowledge of the issue with their flywheel/ clutch so they HAD to contribute in some way even though the problem was alleged (i use the word lightly) to have been resolved. The bottom line is there seems to be a continous issue with their flywheels/ clutches and even with the new and improved parts it does not always mean the issue is gone away. It was a right hand drive market issue too, as the rest of the world did not report such problems.

From my own experience Ive never seen them fully cover a clutch under 50k even if the flywheel was at fault. It was always either 50/50 or a straight out "not a hope"

So maybe theyve changed in the last 3 years since I moved.

With all due respect if you bought the car up North and then just come banging on a dealers door because you have a problem, then I'd say you should expect any southern dealer to be as helpfull to you as Nazi General to a Jew circa 1942.

Dealer will still get paid to do the warranty work either way.

If they are so hard up that is. Tell them to bring it back to where they bought it and that will soon sort the sheep and their " Its cheaper up North " comments. I know a friend of mine whos a service manager and on the instruction of the DP if you try to book in an imported car with a warranty problem he'll give you a date about a month away. Now I know for a fact that he as often told these people when they turn up that he has no record of their booking. Another date is booked well down the road and when it finally gets into the workshop it turns into a very long repair with parts being delayed etc etc. The DP was just so fed up with people turning up with problems in imports not bought off him that he inacted this system. They'll expect the same service as one of his customers i.e courtesy car etc yet dont give him any business. Any dealer who takes this work is signing their own death warrant IMO.

O/T I know, but ffs - how on earth is there a RHD and LHD clutch ????? Last one I saw was............round

OP - sorry, I think you'll find you're on your own on this. Don't worry though, you're in good company (damhik........:p )......the only cure: buy a petrol ! Since the day they've appeared, back in the 964 of 1989, DMF's have been a complete and utter disaster...........

And you wonder why people are unsympathetic towards the plight of Irish dealers? It's a 5 year EU warranty, either honour it or relinquish the franchise.

What a wonderful insight into the Irish motor trade.

TBH, that service mgr friend of yours is no 'service' manager. Self-centred toy-throwing-out-of-pram SIMI member, maybe, 'cos that's what it looks like.

Anyone who behaves like that deserves to close down, end of. It is condescension of the highest order. When you consider that Hyundai may pay for the repair, and he can get paid by them, or, that Hyundai pay some/none of it, and he can sell HIS service to the OP - and get PAID for it - at whatever rate, then ..........if he can't see an income in either of those scenarios, he's a complete waste of space, and they should do us a favour and turn the lights off now, for fear we waste any fuel turning up on his forecourt.

He must be loaded to turn away income. Long may it continue.

Well thats the point really, they are closing down. There's a big difference between a service agent and a main dealer. Warranty income is not going to cover many over heads. If everybody bought a car up North then there would be no need for Southern dealers. Great big high horses floating around here but the fact is not many off you would work for nothing. I think its fair to say that anybody will seek to protect their business and these dealers where forced to build these Glass palaces. You gotta eat ;)
