I had a HKC alarm installed a while back but the guys who installed it are gone out of business and cant get them on the phone. The problem i am having when i activate the alarm it says open zones, Z3 all windows, system unset.
I know which window is causing the problem cause I always had problems with it since it was installed. When it was working it would work for an hour or so and then would have the neighbours ringing me saying alarm was goin off. At the time the guys who installed it came down and said it was too sensitive and should be fine now. But only lasted few hours. I bought a new sensor for the window and all i get is what i mentioned above. I have no engineers code for this alarm is there anything i can do to get the alarm working.

Is there a way of even turning off the alarm for the one window thats causing the problem??

    Hi jayo,
There are other ways of getting into eng mode on the hkc without defaulting the panel..
If the sensors are id sensors you could turn the one off but if they are not it means inhibiting zone 3 but how many sensors are on that zone, was there a problem with the cable when you had it installed, what type of sensors are on the system ?

Dont know what sensors are installed I have some alarm cable so i am going to run a new cable tomor along the ground just to eliminate faulty cable.

    How do I do that?

Thats a good start, have you got a multimeter to test the cable..
The id sensor has two for power, and one for data.. what way is your sensor wired ?

Use that to test the cable.. They are not id sensors.
How far away is the magnet from the sensor, could you move it any closer ?

Its the same as the other windows.

check that the arrow is pointing up on the shock barrel in the sensor, then tape the magnet on to the side of the sensor which has the reed on it and see if it sets.
some times the magnet can loose its strength..

    Your welcome.

Will you check and see if that sensor is on its own on that zone ?

Another thing you can do is put the multimeter on continuity and put it across the reed to see if the magnet is closing the reed with the window closed. It should stop buzzing when you open the window..

I assume when you opened the lid of the sensor it came up zone 3 tamper, if so close that lid and do it to a few window close to that one.. If they come up zone 3 tamper then you have more than one sensor on that zone.. If this is the case do the continuity test on them too..
    Any problems let me know..
