    Hi all..
Was just wondering if anyone has any experience good or bad with weddings in marquees...
Neither of us have enough room to put one up in our garden (wish we did!) but we were considering renting somewhere that could cater for one. What kind of stuff such we consider? There will probably be about 150 guests..
We've already thought of the obvious..portaloos, bad weather, anything else?? And does anyone think it's worth the extra hassle?
    thanks!:)

We had ours on the grounds of Lisnavagh house, Co. Carlow. It cost more than a hotel and we were lucky to get the best day of the summer but we had a fantastic day.

There is a lot of extra hassle with a marquee wedding, you have to hire caters, waiting staff, down to the knifes and forks. Things you take for granted with a hotel. Friend of mine did it and reckoned it wasn't worth it.People had to park a bit away & the ground was wet too, messy in heels

I've been to parties but not a wedding in a marquee. I've always been freezing in them.

My own wedding was in a marquee and it was brilllllll!!!!! Typical crap Irish weather didnt effect the proceedings and went without a hitch whatsoever.

I have also shot 3 weddings where couples have used them and they make for great picture too.

You wont regret going for it if you do. Good luck with your day too :D

in our country?????? i found that even though i didnt want the typical wedding, in Ireland it costs a hell of a lot to get anything done out of the ordinary.

I was at a wedding couple years ago which was organised by a crowd called 'weddings at home' i think. I thought it was great. Was set up in the bride's parents garden and there were about 120-150 at it i'd say. I'm sure if you google you'll find them.

Two friends of mine had their wedding reception in a marquee in their back garden. They were lucky with the weather, it was a great day all in all. But they had major problems organising it. As was already said, you have to think of EVERYTHING. And it ended up costing more than a hotel, but the atmosphere was much nicer. It was so casual, sitting around the garden in the sunshine drinkin beers.

A couple of big problems are accommadation for the guests, and the bar. My friends were lucky that the local pub owner brought up a few kegs and crates of beer and served them. it was in the middle of nowhere so he didnt mind risking getting caught cause pub owners only have a licence to sell on their premises.
And they had a HUGE old manor house so lots of bedrooms, and the younger people camped it in the back field :)

Thanks so much everyone. I think we won't have the money or the guts to go for it to be honest. It seems too stressful. I would really prefer to have a wedding that was a bit different but it seems impossible...:(

We had our wedding in a bedoin marquee and while it looked amazing and all came off without a hitch in the end it was a major pain- we had to organise everything- the bar had to be built from scratch, flooring, electricity, working out who was going to do what between the caterers, the bar company etc etc If I had known how much hassle it would be I would definitely have gone for a hotel. If you wanted something a bit different but without the hassle you could hire a yurt or a teepee as an outside smoking area if you found a hotel that would be amiable to putting it up. There's also a hotel up north somewhere that has a permanent marquee up that does weddings.

Weddings @ Home did ours this summer, superb start to finish and, obviously I'd say it but many more did, it was the best wedding ever... ;)
Very relaxed, they took care of everything, partied till the wee hours and had it the next day for a wind down bbq. in the rain which eventually came, Child o'Prague played a blinder.
We are lucky enough to have a large garden of our own and a lot of very keen gardeners (cheers Ma!) but I know they cater for all sites.
They took care of everything, so many things you'd never think of, and have a fixed price for set number of guests. I'll warn you it is considerably more expensive than a hotel for similar standard (in part cos you're paying for all the booze and to build a hotel of your own for a few days) but then again, if you can, you should cos it's incomparable. Ask for Emma she's a legend.

Oh, our band were the Prickly Pairs, who were outstanding, had everyone up for about 2 1/2 hours and even let the nieces play the drums afterwards.
