I really hate ISServices! They ****ed up all computers with their freaking security. They spent 40 hours in Arts block and Hamilton doing something with macs and nothing changes. Snow Leopard came out and they didn't install it. They don't install any updates. What a boomer. I really really hate ISS! They ****ed up all computers and all computer networks including internet on campus. Went to them at least 20 TIMES! to fix internet connectivity on my laptop. Immagine what will be this year. They need better security design!

Believe me they'll get much worse. My Mac laptop is after failing their so called security test and the anti virus software it said I'm required to use will cost me $104.

    :(

What program were you asked to use?

Seeing as you didn't get the angry mob response you wanted when you posted an identical post in the BRM thread, I'll ask you the same question again that you failed to answer me over there.

Which Snow Leopard feature, in your opinion, makes it worth while reimaging about 70 iMacs running Leopard?

ISS are pretty dim sometimes, but they stop JUST short of actually charging people for their abysmal services. When you actually bring your computer into college and run the test, you will be given a link to download the software and all required upgrades for free (ISS have a deal worked out with McAfee etc to provide software to students).

Sometimes (as happened to me last year) the link to download the files from college will be screwed, but don't worry: the JCR Technical Officer (in halls, you see) habitually carry the required files on USB keys for exactly this reason.

We're going about this the wrong way. As discussed in my own thread on this forum, ISS haven't installed or supported Snow Leopard due to the fact that they're not done ensuring that it won't cause problems with their network (argue about this reason all you want, but that's just how it is). It is worthwhile installing it for the simple reason that it is the most current version of Mac OS (and happens to be ludicrously cheap even for consumers) and runs the best.

I am not saying that 10.5 is superior, but given that 10.6 was released less than a month ago, is it not a bit unrealistic to expect a college to jump to move from a perfectly working and secure 10.5 system to a relatively untested OS?

With the Apple releasing 10.6.1 less than two weeks after the release of 10.6, I think it is safe to say that there were still bugs in the OS at the time of the public release.

    There's two different issues here:

    1) Installing - You're absolutely right about this - especially since we're talking about a large network here (and I'm also assuming that these are even x64 capable machines, which, if their new, they should be). I do think it would be worth installing eventually since, for want of a better way of putting it, it's Goddamned Snow Leopard and is as such leaner/meaner/etc, and the financial cost is minimal.

    2) Supporting on the network - this is a seperate issue about which, yes, I am still bitter. Not being an IT expert I can't comment too authoritatively on this, but what I can say is that ISS are fools if they're expecting anything other than a horde of angry Mac users on their doorstep come Freshers Week. Let's face it - just about every Mac user with an x64 machine is going to own 10.6 since it's so cheap (unless they've been forewarned about ISS). I heard that a potential explanation is that they're waiting on a third party (Bradford) but even so, SOMEONE messed up.

Well i don't know much about computers, but i've found that the people in ISS services are the nicest people, who are in authority positions, in the college.

Oh, they're nice enough people, but they do some very stupid things.

Jimdw's gripe was with them not installing 10.6 on the College machines.

Given the system that ISS have chosen to go with, I think it is just unfortunate timing rather than a fcuk up to be honest.
