Pay Rise?

    I have been working in my job for over 2 years now and we have yearly reviews coming up soon. Just wandering should I be entitled to a pay rise as I have effectivley been on the same salary since I began?

    Just as my first year review was coming up in which I would have received a pay rise the company decided to introduce a pay freeze. There are a couple of people on my team who are in the company maybe 1 year longer than me but they received their pay rises just before the recession hit and so are on around 4-5 grand more a year. I dont think this is fair as I know for a fact I do the same/more work than them.

    Can a company just expect you to stay on the same salary for what will be 3 years even though my skill set has improved etc? The way it is now I am actually coming out with less money than when I started...how much longer can "you should be grateful you have a job" be used as an excuse.

    Unless your contract is very specific about it, then no, you're not entitled to any rise.

    FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

    You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

    Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    If your contract includes a provision for the review of your pay (without specifying upwards or downwards) your employer could even try and use it to reduce your pay. It all depends on your contract really.

    Unless your contract says different (and it probably doesn't) then you are not "entitled" to a pay rise.

    Hi Op

    The current economic crisis is affecting all wage levels, you can bet that anyone who joins your company after you will be earning less than you, I think most companies are freezing pay rises, I'd wait until things improve before seeking a pay rise.

    ok, thanks for the replies. Dug out the contract and pay increases are at the companies discretion. Guess im just gonna have to fight my corner when it comes to it.
