Rent Allowance - but moving??

Does anyone know what way I should go about things if I want to move house? I'm a single parent and have been on rent allowance now for a few years in the same house but I'm thinking of moving house for various reasons.
So do I need to let my CWO know I'm considering it even though it might be months before I actually find somewhere and do it? Or do I go ahead and start viewing places and only let them know after I've accepted the offer of a place?
Plus is it relatively straightforward to get my rent allowance just transferred from the old address to the new one or will it be loads of hassle?
Thanks for any info or advice.:)

Each area has different criteria for awarding of Rent Supplement. You would have to check with the local Health Centres of the area you are moving to, to see what are the limits, etc.. of rent payable that would allow you to claim RS.

Hopefully the link below will answer some questions you may have

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/SupplementaryWelfareAllowance/Pages/RentSupplement.aspx#Further_Information6

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/supplementary-welfare-schemes/rent_supplement

and the bottom line is you have to talk to your local community officer

    I hope this helps

Ps As for you Paulus837 you dont know this personn personal situation so
try not to judge +the type of language you used is not suitable for this forum and will get you banned

Oh right, I forgot it was that easy, silly me.

Maybe you'll give a me a job then, will you, seeing as you're so high and mighty?
And while you're at it, maybe you'll sort out childcare for me too, yeah? Shouldn't be a problem, I mean it's not as if we're in the midst of a recession or anything.

With hundreds of qualified experienced workers being made redundant every day at the moment, I sincerely hope you join them and let's see how sanctimonious you feel then.

Far from being a scrounger, I am a university graduate with an honors degree and two separate diplomas.

You, on the other hand resort to offensive swearing and making ignorant judgements about people and circumstances you know nothing about.

Somehow, I feel the superior one here.

He's a troll and he's trying to get a reaction.

I've permanently banned him from the forum, but in future please simply use the report posts function.

hi i am a single parent also and recieved rent allo for a few years think it would be a good idea to talk to your welfare officer just so you know where you stand did you ever consider the RAS scheme if your on the council list and in receipt of rent allo for 18 months you qualify

Thanks mojo, what is the RAS scheme exactly? Haven't heard of it.

RAS was introduced to help people who are in receipt of long term rent supplement. You normally have to be claiming rent supplement for longer than 18 months. The scheme is being run by the local authorities. Check your local council on line, housing section. All the best. Dont pay heed to that other idiot that commented.
