    SD
Batista opened the show with a segment. Lead to Jericho coming out and receiving a spinebuster.
Scott Armstrong said he was told before-hand how the Submission match at Breaking Point was going to end. Vince McMahon told Teddy Long to apologize to the fans. This lead to a brief apology in the ring. Upon leaving ringside, Long was locked in his limo and driven away with Undertaker as the driver.
Melina pinned WWE Women's champion Michelle McCool in a non-title match. CM Punk had an in-ring segment. Same stuff he says every week about being straight edge.
    Hart Dynasty defeated Cryme Time.
Kane vs. Great Khali ended by DQ when Kane hit Khali with a chair. He then used the steel ringsteps on Khali's leg about five times. Khali did a stretcher job during the break.
Drew McIntyre beat up Charlie Haas, who was waiting for his opponent in the ring. Batista defeated Chris Jericho after a Batista bomb.
The dark match main event was CM Punk vs. Undertaker ending in a no contest when Punk brought a chair into the ring, but Undertaker used it. Afterwards, he hit Punk with a chokeslam and two Tombstones.

    Superstars
    Christian vs. Paul Burchill
    Dolph Ziggler vs. Finlay.
Christian got the win in his match, which featured new ECW #1 contender Zach Ryder on commentary.
Ziggler got the win in his match.

    ECW

Before winning Tuesday’s 10-Man Battle Royal, Zack Ryder’s night wasn’t exactly an easy ride to No. 1 contendership. The cocky Long Islander rudely interrupted Yoshi Tatsu’s English lesson with Goldust, calling him a loser. But the Japanese newcomer got the last laugh during their match. Always staying one step ahead of his opponent, Tatsu impressively earned a victory over the soon-to-be No. 1 contender after hitting him with a high kick to the head.

Zack Ryder earned his chance at ECW gold Tuesday night, besting nine other Extreme Superstars: Tommy Dreamer, Goldust, Tyler Reks, Yoshi Tatsu, Shelton Benjamin, Ezekiel Jackson, Vladimir Kozlov, Paul Burchill and Sheamus. One by one, Ryder watched as his opponents were tossed over the top rope, oftentimes merely staying out of harm’s way. But as the final four competitors faced off, Ryder eliminated Goldust to whittle his opponents down to two. Then, Dreamer assisted Kozlov over the ropes, leading to Ryder’s chance to capitalize on the situation. The ECW Original’s back was turned and Ryder tossed Dreamer over, becoming the new No. 1 contender to the ECW Championship.

Two days after his WWE Breaking Point loss to ECW Champion Christian, an angry William Regal demanded a rematch. But ECW General Manager Tiffany denied The British Brawler and explained he wouldn’t compete in the main event 10-Man Battle Royal, either. The irate Regal took his frustrations out on his ECW on Syfy opponent, The Hurricane, and earned a victory after pulling the Knee Trembler.
Without warning, the masked Superstar’s rival, Paul Burchill, capitalized, brutally attacking him from behind. Later, during a locker room area interview with Savannah, Burchill explained he attacked The Hurricane for putting his sister Katie Lea in harm’s way the previous week. The Ripper also said he’s still determined to prove his theory that The Hurricane and Gregory Helms are the same person.

im sure Christian is quaking in his boots now that (after losing to Tatsu) Mr Woo Woo Woo is no.1 contender.

wonder will that match on SD start a bit of a Jericho vs Batista thing perhaps leading to a match at Bragging rights or will it just be a 1 off defeat to give Batista a big SD return. I say Bragging rights and not the PPV before it/next as it could be built slowly on SD keeping Batista away from the title for now while Jericho on Raw continues to build his tag feud for HIAC with Big show vs MVP/Henry where he could drop the tag belt leaving himself open for 1on1 matches from then on.

Your Batista thoughts mirror my own.

Has tyson Kidd got a new finisher? I enjoyed the springboard elbow but the move he used to end that one can be more sudden so more effective.

    Maria clearly doesn't watch Smackdown:rolleyes:

eh so who plasterd all those Ziggler pics all over the dressing room? (I missed that segment last week incase it pointed towards this, was it just McCool (that was McCool he was with wasnt it) trying to be vindictive and pointing it out to Maria.

    Pretty close

Last week Dolph was looking for maria, knocking on the divas dressing room door. Michele said she would look, no maria. Then she fell into dolph who held her up, she then made a move but dolph showed no interest and said just tell maria i was looking for her. Layla just happened to catch Dolph holding McCool up to stop her fall on her iphone

But Maria doesn't watch smackdown as she washes her on fridays and missed the scene. Now she blames Melins when it was layla and McCool up to no good.

I watched the show last night and enjoyed it but can I ask a question based on last night show whats the difference between Raw and Smackdown? I found it almost identicle to a Raw episode taking away the hornswoggle nonsense of recent weeks which has hopefully finished now.

    LOL at teddy searches:D

    Gimmick getting old now.:(

    Just asking the question?

Looking for honest answers. I was going to put this in the other thread where it might be more relevant.

Gimmick? Maybe, but it interests me how people look at shows from different perspectives. I dont want fanboy bashing i want open discussion without insult. Good can come out this. Trying to get posters to watch shows with an open mind rather have their mind made up before they have viewed. If you want me to stop this line of question/debate I will.

If it were not for this kind of question i would have missed a hell of a lot of good Smackdown shows over the last few months.

Of course you can ask. I will give you credit for pointing out on the other thread that peoples opinion of smackdowns could change very fast. With batista around there is a chance things could go pear shaped on smackdowns threads. The Fact Vince is likely to be on smackdown more and more as he is
probably revealed as the one behind the screw job on taker
    will get on peoples nerves.

But i would like to point out peoples dislike for RAW compared to smackdown in recent times wasn't just hornswoggle.

RAW had little variety compared to smackdown.

In recent times smackdown has worked to
Provide new feuds at the top of the card
    Elevate new people
Create a competitive environment where we don't know who will win every week.
and plenty of very good wrestling matches

RAW did not provide that in recent weeks and months.

Lets look at cryme time and ziggler. On Raw they were used as enhancemnnt talents. On Smackdown We saw Ziggler elevated by a star like Rey while cryme time were made look good by stars like jericho and big show.

We saw CM Punk as WHC and then as No 1 contender beaten by John Morrison. When did we see MVP beat Orton on RAW?

CM Punk as WHC has become one of the top guys in WWE. What happened him when he was WHC on RAW?

If raw starts to show improvement in these things i would be delighted (And in fainress it has started). But if they do its because of what has happened on smackdown in recent times. As i said at the start smackdown could go backwards a bit in peoples minds but it will still have some very good wrestling like it has for many years.

One thing which should be noted though is that people have been less critical of Raw in comparison to Smackdown in the past few weeks due to things like Legacy being made actually look strong.

If you (Davhro) are to compare the past few Raw's and SD perhaps there would not be much difference tbh however over the past few months atleast imo Raw has been easily below the standard SD has set for a number of reasons, mostly those DM has listed above.

Very true about legacy. We also see MVP be made look better as he competes with jericho. I really believe that these things have come about thanks to how well things worked out on smackdown. It wouldn't surprise me if they used smackdown as a trial before going down the same road on RAW.

I would like to say to davhro that i'm not having a go, just trying to point out some reasons people were enjoying smackdown more than raw. It just so happens that the things we consistently enjoyed on smackdown were not happening on raw consistently so the shows end up getting compared.

I don't think anyone wants to pick a show and have a go at it because of brand loyalty. We just want to see good shows regardless of what wwe brand is on. If raw was delivering something during that time we weren't seeing on smackdown, people would say that smackdown needed to do it also.

    Good stuff..........

Your not having a go these are the answers i am looking for. Solid points and not HHH sucks type posts you get on some boards.

I would agree that Smackdown would be a trial ground of sorts to see how the fans react and to judge the level of performance. It is a better platform for the wrestlers to establish themselves too however is this not one of the points of the show?

One of my main faults on Raw is the main event tag team matches that seem to happen most weeks. I want to see proper tag team matches. They always announce this in the first segmant of the show too. Anyone else find this as an issue?

Only thing i would disagree about is the brand loyalty. Maybe not on this board but there are plenty of fans out there who have their mind made up before a show comes on.

It will be interesting to see how Smackdown pans out in the next few weeks? Batista, Taker and Vince have me worried that Teddy Long is not the only hijacking we are going to see;). Glad to see you recognised this and realised it was one of my main points from the other thread. I hope this paragraph does not come across as smug and hope the opposite happens and it come back to bite my arse.

Watching Smackdown on a Friday night is now an enjoyable routine. I hope it long continues to be so.

This harks back to the issue that many people had with Raw during the dark days of late 2002-early 2004. Too much formula and predictability. They always opened with a 15-20 minute segment, invariably involving Triple H (and little has changed- it's now usually Hunter, Cena, or Orton, or all of them), and it set up the main event.
It's the sort of thing that even if CM Punk were to open the next ten Smackdown's in the same manner, it would be better recieved, because he's a fresh character, and it doesn't feel like we've seen it for about seven years running.

If what you're saying is that you'd like to see "proper" tag teams in big matches, then I agree... I too would like to see some quality stuff in that respect.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,520 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

What do we think of Drew McIntyre?

His re-debut is far better than his debut. They are making him out to be right bad-ass and he hasn't even wrestled yet!

Yeah I hate tag matches that don't feature any real tag teams.

I don't know why the brand loyalty thing is such an issue. On this board I don't see brand loyalty. So why post about here in a way that makes out posters on this board have loyalty to smackdown when they don't. Posters here are critical of any poor content produced in wrestling regardless of the show or company. But they also praise good work. What happens on other boards doesn't really apply to conversation here.

Smackdown could well go down the pan compared to what it was in recent times but I won't worry about that. I will just watch and hopefully continue to enjoy the show each week.
