Problem with remote central locking Mini Cooper

Stupidly I left my sunroof open and it rained for about 10 mins before I realised that I had parked with sunroof open - dried out the car but water kept pouring down through the rear view mirror and since then my remote central locking hasn't worked. Is it going to be expensive to have this repaired - I'm presuming there is a motherboard of some kind in the mirror which needs to be replaced but is a main dealer going to screw me and replace the whole mirror - has this happened to anyone else?

The control unit for the windows/locking/sunroof is under the left hand a pillar. Its unlikely that the control unit got wet, but it's not unknown for the keys to forget their programming. There's a routine you can try to get the central locking working again (It's one of the two below, I can never remember which one).

Sit in the car, close the doors.
Turn the engine on and then off
    Remove the key

    Method 1
Hold down the lock button and tap the unlock button three times

    Method 2 if 1 doesn't work
Hold down the unlock button and tap the lock button three times

The car should then lock and unlock to confirm,

    Hope that helps!

I tried that when I finished work on Friday and again on Saturday morning but no joy unfortunately. I rang the main dealers and told them what happened but have to have car hooked up to diagnostics machine to see which part of the control unit is blown - so it's 55 yos to find out what's wrong with it and then to have to fix it on top of that......................any other suggestions???

hi there I ended up replacing my rear view mirror (got it on ebay as main dealers wanted €200 for a new one) but this hasn't solved the problem of my central locking - tried your previous advice with both keys but no joy - would you have any other possible solutions?

If none of the above works, I can only suggest bringing it to someone who can check the electrics, and has diagnostic equipment. I know one independent mechanic who works on MINIs all the time, if you want his details you can PM me.

I'd say the solution is that he now has a different car!
