    Hi All

Could anyone reccomend how I'd work out an approximate cost on how to insulate a bungalow?

I know the question is how long is a peice of string, but I'm thinking of buying a bungalow that will need insulating.

I gather Kingspan is the best to use, how much does this work out at?
Is it bought by the square foot?
Is there another good insulater that can be used that wouldn't be as expensive?

The House is 2200 square foot, cavity blocks about, 25 years old.

I'm guessing to do this job, the plaster boards need to be pulled off wall, kingspan put up, plastered over then repainted?

Also I understand may need to be treated for damp, but that's another days work. I'll need to get someone out to see to price it that I'm assuming?

Won't be doing the bathroom or the upstairs rooms.
Will probly only do the Diner end of kitchen?

    Kitchen diner measures 8.9m x 4m
    sitting room 4.9 x 3.6m
    bedroom 1 3.7m x 3.2m
    bedroom 2 3.8m x 3.2m
    bedroom 3 4.5m x 3.8m
    utility 2.5m x 3.3m

If anyone could give me a rough idea or tell me how to work it out myslf approx i'd hugely appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance, LJ

Since the external walls are cavity block, why not externally insulate it?

    dry lining cost €40-50m2

    ext insulation - €90-110m2

do not even dream of dry lining over damp walls

External insulation is ridicolusly expensive, I got a quote for a similar sized bungalow today for about 25k.

Drylining is most cost effective if you are gutting the house but it's pointless only doing some of the walls, its a bit bit like only putting in a few of the windows!!!

    thanks all for that
and no worries, wouldn't dry line over damp
i'm still not sure that it is damp, still waiting to get it checked.
house was just very cold and bit of smell but not sure.

guess your right, no point in doing it on the cheap, need to do all the rooms

gives me a starting point anyway,

    thanks again
