The iPhone warranty process is pretty odd. For pretty much all other Apple products, they have a worldwide warranty and you deal with Apple directly if something goes wrong. The iPhone though is location specific and in the countries where an exclusive carrier deal exists, you're referred to the carrier for any warranty issues. Was the iPhone purchased from O2 Ireland originally?

You might be able to get warranty service then - I'd imagine you'd still need a receipt or something but I'm not 100% sure as I've never dealt with O2 and my iPhone wasn't sourced from them... maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

Not sure about the "funny" noise really - could it be the "reminder" sound? If you get a message and don't acknowledge it, the phone will make the "SMS received" sound every so often, as a reminder.

The texts not coming through for hours though sounds like a network issue, not something to do with the phone. Does it happen with all texts from all networks?

As for the phone heating up, mine gets quite hot if under pretty intensive use - with jailbroken apps, you can have instances where an app has not quit correctly/fully and as it's working away and using up CPU cycles the phone gets pretty warm. Try rebooting the phone fully (power off/on) and then don't open any of the Cydia installed apps - does it still heat up after awhile?

Actually, this is wrong. O2 will nearly always refer warranty issues directly to Apple, they even suggest their customers bypass O2 altogether to avoid delays.

OP, call them and see what they say, I doubt the change of ownership will affect the warranty.

Hmmm, seems it changed. I remember Apple's own site having a table with the warranty process of each country the iPhone is available in and it differed, depending on exclusivity or not in each given country. Apple's site now says that you can contact your carrier or Apple directly, so you're correct Spoongibbon.

In that case OP, try entering the serial number here and see what it says:

I'd take dealing with Apple directly over O2 any day...

nah its a not like that its coming from inside the phone not a ringtone or anythin like , i have it for 6 months i know what all them sounds are like

the texts issue well i put my sim into a different phone and msgs came through no bother, so that leads me to think its the iphone

Yeah, noise from the hardware itself doesn't sound good and not sure what could actually cause the delayed texts coming in. Might need replacement/servicing after all. Does the Apple site recognize your phone as under warranty?

    Call Apple directly 1850 94 61 91.

They are excellent at lacing faulty phones and there is a good chance you would get a 3GS as a replacement as 3G not being made anymore, except for 8gb version they may charge you €29 but their service is very quick, call now and you may have a replacment as soon as tomorrow as happened the a mate of mine
