Audi Brake warning light on startup

    Audi A4 2002 1.8T

When I start the car from cold start I get the red brake warning light flash on the centre display along with 3 loud beeps then goes off. This started a month ago and generally only went once on startup and never again. Recently with the colder temps in the morning it has gone off on startup then repeats itself randomly for the first 10-15mins of my journey. No pattern at all to driving circumstances.

I have been on to a number of Audi and independent garages across Dublin and none of them have ever heard of it. I went onto forums in England and found a number of Audi ones that describe the exact same problem as my own. It seems to be more common in diesels but is the result of a low voltage spike setting of the sensor from the battery. Every post I found seems to be solved by a new battery. I have replaced mine with two different types but to no avail.

Has anyone come across this in Ireland?

PS I did receive detailed instructions from a person in England on the fitting of a relay and wiring that bypasses the sensor on startup. This fix if recognised by Audi in England but I am very reluctant to give the job to someone over here unless they have done it before. Also not sure if it would fix the repeated alerts.

Really baffled, new battery and its starting to become more frequent but still stops after about 10mins of driving.

PS anyone know how to turn off the beeping?

Never heard of this problem before but I'd bring it to a good auto elec. Where are you based?

I assume the brake fluid level is correct?

I would give that a go. If Audi in uk are using it, well its not simply a fault that can be easily fixed by renewing a sensor or whatever. It must be the ECU triggering this wrong alert I would assume. Get an auto electrician to fit the relay & wiring as per instructions. It would be childs play for a good auto electrician.
