Read the stickies at the top of the laptops forum. You'll find info on how to look for advice. Some people might have different ideas of what "affordable" is, 200? 700? 1000? What is the laptop going to be used for? Just saying "college" isn't telling us anything, you could be doing a photography course etc that requires a more powerful laptop.

You can't have a go at this poster when your original post is about descriptive as just saying "Want to buy laptop"

There are a huge number of threads in this forum asking the same question as yourself,But they all have slightly more information in the original post,Firstly did you read them?Secondly if you actually read this How to get help on this forum ***READ THIS FIRST*** then you would of possibly not got the "helpful" post Maqnus.

If you actually opened this thread you'd see this:
If you are looking to buy a laptop, please include the following information in your post:

Budget: How much you are willing to pay. More is not always better

Intended use: E.g. college work, internet, e-mail, Word processing, programming, games, development, whatever. It makes a big difference.

Mobility: Generally speaking, the smaller a laptop, the more you will pay for it. So if mobility is not important, make sure and state that

Warranty: Is a warranty important? Extended warranties tend to be expensive, do you need the piece of mind? Or would you rather wing it and fix the laptop yourself if something goes wrong? I would.
-Giving us some info like that would be a great help!

Now as Alanstrainor said college is a very wide area,From video production to games developing to just wanting a laptop to browse the internet during lunch.

There are plenty of us here who'd be happy to help but with a thread as informative as that you can't really expect anything more that a smart comment.
