hi, this is my 2nd day of having what i think is wisdom tooth problems, my top left wisdom tooth has come through almost all the way and isnt sore but is rubbing on the skin at the back of my mouth, so that bits a bit inflamed, the bottom left wisdom tooth is poking through the bone/gum also not causing any pain.

my big problem is i cant open my mouth/jaw. earlier today i could open it 2 fingers wide, but now it seems to be getting worse and its harder to fit only one. im very worried what is causing this, is it related to my teeth, or do i need to go and see a doctor??!!

this is coming at a seriously bad time, i tried to get 20 quid out of the machine today and was refused, im not working and i need to sort out getting a medical card.. so really i know my health is more important, but will this get better if i give it a day or 2 or do i start panicking!!!

any ideas would be really appreciated at this stage. thanks.

Well certainly if you are feeling ill and feverish or if the swelling was restricting your breathing in anyway I would be heading down to my nearest A&E . Pretty quickly You would be assessed and if needs be treated.

If however it is a local pain which has been going on for a few days i would
suggest going to a dentist for treatment. Explain your financial position and the state you are in .

As an interim measure you should rinse regularly with hot water ( previously boiled from kettle) with a spoon of salt. You could also take whatever painkillers you usually take for a headache but preferably something that will take swelling down . Nurofen 400mg if you are not allergic to that drug.

I had something similiar a few years ago, I woke up and my jaw was completely locked was in Australia away for the weekend with friends so I was very freaked out! it gradually opened during the day but not fully. trip to the dentist the next day was an infection around my wisdom tooth, course of antobiotics cleared it up. Trip to your local dentist is prob what you need, just explain your situation.

    Good luck.
