Hey guys I just started up an account here to get some advice of what to do if you are pretty fond of gambling?? I wouldn't say I am an addict I lost around €6,000 in the past eight months. I am really worried though because times are tough and my wife is starting to withdraw from our account and there is only around €1,300 left and I think it is only a matter of time before she finds out..I think it is time to man up and face my problems head on. I am going to put it all on Cork to win the football.

If anybody has any suggestions of what to do it would be much appreciated. Thanks

You are addicted to gambling. There's no two ways about it. Get help.

It is definitely time to man up & face this - it's not a small problem from what you've posted.

I hope you're not a troll, but if not, you have nothing to be ashamed of. No one chooses to have a gambling addiction - you're just wired that way.

Start by being totally honest with your wife. With her support (after her anger subsides...) it'll be much easier to stay strong.

I'm just waiting for that big win to get me back some of my euro's

I'm pretty scared man, just gone 40 and 18 years of my life savings have gone down the drain

You're betting way more then you can afford.

You need to find other interests and hobbies to occup your time. Gambling can be fun but it can be an addiction too like drinking. So its best to have many interests to keep your mind off it.

€6,000 isn't much really so don't worry about that too much. People waste money all the time by paying for things more then what they're worth etc. By stopping now you'll save thousands. The wife will understand and calm down after a while.

Why not put it on Brock Lesnar to retain in his next UFC title defense? Just saw a thread in the MMA forum that says he produces 5 times as much testosterone as the average man

Look I was on the UFC forum and a mod (Brewster) who is a good friend of mine told me this.He said he thinks Brock might be using hgh or something. If I am wrong I apologise but can we please keep this thread away from that stuff.I really want to know what to do now and I think it might be sinking in that I need help from somewhere.I am really trying to take my mind off this and please don't bring this up in other threads.I am very embarrassed as it is

How will I break it too my wife? How would I bring up a topic like that to her.Thats pretty much 18 years of savings from my job gone,I don't know how she would take it.Most of all I can't lose her now

It depends on her personality. If shes a normal woman just say it straight out and admit you've a problem. At least if you admit your problem it might soften the blow a bit.

But if I get that big win she will never have to know about it

I dunno, I've watched all of his opponents fights (on mma-core.com) and he could lose by a knockout.

If you have a gambling problem you shouldn't be gambling anymore. Stop talking about making one last big win. Just cut your losses now and move on with your life.

And THEN you will stop gambling & move on?

    Me don't think so.

Fess up & get some help.

I was referring to this thread, started by the OP and locked just before he came here and started this one.

    It's a troll.

I agree with Aarrrgh .... the first step is acceptance, after that make the conscious decision to stop.

I was in the same situation a couple of months ago (except without the wife) ... transferred a 5K balance over to an interest free credit card (which meant my first credit card was clear .... so I used that for online gambling .... finally cleared off the 5K balance ...but my original credit card now had 7K on it ....so I managed to gamble up a debt of 7K ... stopped online gambling about 6 weeks ago.... already have the debt down to 6K.

if that doesnt sound clear: Transferred Balance of credit Card A to credit card B (total of 5K transferred)..... so "A" was empty and "B" has 5K ... unfortunately this only allowed me to continue gambling with "A" so before I knew it "A" had been maxed out at 7K ....so my total debt on credit cards was 12K ..... 6 weeks ago ... I stopped online gambling by freezing the accounts/closing the accounts and making the decision to actually stop.... its been hard - VERY HARD.... but over the last couple of weeks I have managed to get my credit card debt down...at the moment its a little over 6K - I'm conscious of every penny that I spend, if I do gamble I do it in a shop and max €50 a day (I was using €500 a day during my gambling days sometimes winning €2k-3K ...but always loosing it all !!!)

I would suggest that you actually seek help - professional help, explain to your wive that you did something wrong.... you have lost most of your savings and you need help with the addiction.

I know I have an addictive personality - from being addicted to sports as a kid to being addicted to work.... I have to keep myself occupied, I found that I was gambling through boredom, I had a job which kept me busy but that changed and I had more time to myself....got bored and started gambling..... didnt recognise it at first - then thought I had control, then thought its only money, worst case I sell some stuff and clear off the debt (its not that easy)

At the moment my housemate jokes (or maybe he's serious) .... about my addiction to Boards (I'm on it about 6-8hours a day...after I come home from work :P)

Whatever you do you must first of all face up to this. You must not bet any more. If you bet the last of your money and it loses then you are really screwed. I also get the feeling like all addicted gamblers, if this wins you will think there is nothing wrong and start all over again until you lose it all. I have been around gamblers all my life and am one of the worst. I have known people who have lost houses, jobs, done time for theft due to this. You must stop now.

    Seek help if you can.

If you stop now your wife is more likely to forgive you than if you lose everything.

I think you guys might be right. At least I am not in debt it was all savings but to me it is just as bad. Is there a gamblers anonymous or something?

It is in the UK. You need to go to your local betting office they will have leaflets and contact numbers where you can go for help.

    Hi Jew Jitsu,

If you do have a gambling problem and realise that it is an issue, then you should contact gamblers anonymous. They will give better advice than anyone here can. Face it head on if it is a real problem affecting you.

The contact details are listed above by others in here. We can point you in the right direction, but we are not qualified to offer professional advice which is what is needed if the problem is real.

    Thanks.
