What do people think would be the best career direction with things the way they are at the moment, plus considering that its probably only going to get worse in this country for a while yet?

Software Development. Ireland punches well above its weight when it comes to software, we have big names like Microsoft, Oracle and IBM here and a large number of banks and insurance companies have IT operations here, as well as indigenous companies who sell solutions to those banks domestically and internationally. The government has recently brought in tax incentives for companies who set up Research and Development operations. Our neighbours in London have one of the largest financial centres in the world, so there's a large jobs market there for people who get sick of working in Ireland and it also means we can attract talent from there which is important to employers. The wages are decent, but not exceptional, the work can be frustrating and boring, but if you're not one of the silver spoon generation who think they're entitled to love their job, then it might be for you.

    Debt recovery/management.
It's a tough job but it's an industry that's only going to get bigger in the foreseeable future.

Research and Development - we're a highly skilled workforce,no more high volume manufacturing low skilled labour - We cant compete so no point even trying. Pharma / Healthcare Sector is still on the up! Or else Energy / Utilities
