been planning on buying either an rme fireface 800 or apogee ensemble for a while now, will definitely be buying in the next few months but for the first time the metric halo 2882 has come to my attention.

anyone have any experience of it? any stockists in ireland?

No stockists as far as I know.

What DAW do you use ?
We supply Apogee in Ireland - the Ensemble's integration with Logic is very good, but it works with other Daws very well too (except PTools!)

    And it sounds good.

I had a RME fireface800. It was great but I switched to an RME digiface PCIe card to get more digital inputs.
I was put off the ensemble because it uses the native OSX firewire driver.
This put it at the mercy of the Apple developers. There was a problem with variable latency every time you powered up. This has been fixed but took a long time.
RME, on the other hand, writes it's own drivers that are rock solid. Totalmix software mixer is great too. Lets you route any input to any output making headphone mixes a breeze.
If you using a macbook pro or mac pro a digiface or multiface will give you unbelievably low latency. If on an imac or macbook a fireface will do a fine job.
I have not used/heard the apogee duet or one but if you need 1 or 2 channel inputs they are supposedly unbeatable.

The Duet uses the same mic pres as the Ensemble.

    thanks for the replies lads

im going to buy an iMac or macbook pro, not 100% sure which yet, but leaning towards the iMac as i can get more bang for buck. gonna make the switch to logic too (using cubase on pc at the moment).

i love what i hear about the ff800 and was almost definitely going to get that but did a session recently on an ensemble and was mighty impressed with the quality we got in a short space of time, thanks for raising the driver issue though, more food for thought!

it was only last week the halo appeared on my radar, reviews and feedback about it are extremely positive, putting the pres and a/d at least at the same level as the other too units if not better but with a few other bonuses:
    - its interface software lets you record straight to the hard drive wavs even if no DAW is installed, might come in handy
    - it has advanced routing options and dsp which allows you to do a mock external summing with various options to add "character" which get great feedback
    - theres decent 15 step preamp meters to help set levels going in properly
    - although it has only 4 xlr ins like the other 2, all 8 analogue ins have preamps and can be used for balanced mic signals

would love to hear feedback from anyone whos used one
