Door-to-door alarm salesmen won't stop visiting - what are my rights?

If a house alarm company sends aggressive representatives to my house every 4 months for 2 years and I email the company to express my frustration with this constant harrassment and ask them to stop sending representatives to my home and they agree to do so, BUT then yet another representative arrives at my door 4 months after my complaint, can I threaten this company with any legal action if they continue to send representatives to my home?

I know I have the option of "don't answer the door" but it seems to me that inhibits my right to be able to have a neighbor call in for a cup of tea, for example....

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

If someone comes to your door after they have been told they are not to come onto your property, that person is trespassing. Trespass is actionable at law. Legal action can certainly be threatened in those circumstances. Whether it is worth doing is another matter and a solicitor should be consulted. There is also the possibility of demanding that the company delete your name and address from it's computer and other records as they no longer have any reason to store your details. When any caller arrives at your property, tell them immediately that they are to leave. Call the guards if they do no go. keep a written record of all incidents. Video the callers on your mobile if possible.

Yes you could in theory get an injunction, but it would be over-kill.

You need to be taken off any list of prospects they may be working on.

Suggest you get some vaguely religious books - can be picked up at any car boot sale. Next time a salesman knocks on the door before he can start his sales spiel say something like this " Tell me my son, do you really talk to Jesus each day - please take this devotional book, very helpful, only ten euro cash to you"

They tend to move onto the next prospect.

In addition to some of the options mentioned by some of the other posters, a relatively new provision contained in the Consumer Protection Act 2007, makes 'aggressive commercial practice' a criminal offence pursuant to section 54, and liable on a first summary conviction to a fine not exceeding €3,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both. The National Consumer Agency are primarily responsible for enforcing the Act, so you might be well advised to contact them for there advice.

Hi, unfortunatley I think you may be being called upon by an outsourced sales company. If it is the group I am thinking of then they don't keep computerised records of the 'prospects' as mentioned. They literally blanket call everyone in a certain area methodically which is why they call every 4 months or so - they've worked back round the houses! I know this is of no relief, sorry about that. You can contact their head office but being honest the chances that they'll remember to tell every one of the hundreds of 'sales' people that cycle through the company is slim. Just close the door to them while being polite but forceful.
