Right this might be a viable thread (a la ben roethlisberger) or it might bomd (a la Tim Couch) but lets see:

My nominations for player of the week of week 1:

Offense: RB Adrian Peterson MIN. 180 yards rushing, 3tds. Again showing LT who the premiere rusher in pro ball is.

Defense: A slightly more difficult choice here, Im going with DE Richard Seymour OAK. 6 Tackles and 2 sacks is a great input. Worth a 1st rounder? We'll see as the season progresses!

    Opinions etc greatly recieved!

Good idea IMO. We might as well throw Rookie of the week in there.

I'll go with AP for offensive POTW

AJ Hawk of the Packers for Defensive POTW

Mark Sanchez of the jets for Rookie of the week

Offense - Drew Brees, 358 yards, 6 touchdowns.

Defense - Osi Umenyiora, 4 tackles, sack, forced fumble and a touchdown.

Rookie - Mark Sanchez, 18/31, 272 yards and a touchdown.

Drew Brees, Osi Umenyora and Mark Sanchez.

Honorable mentions to 'All Day', Troy Polamalu and Percy Harvin.

Adrian Peterson, without a doubt.... (obviously :D) for O.

I'd have to say Polamalu for D, even though he only played a fraction of the game he was scary to watch.

Honorable D mentions go to Jonny Jolly of the Packers for his awesome interception and Brandon Chillar for his over athletic sack of Jay Cutler, that was one of the funniest plays I have seen in a long time.

I have to disagree here, yes he made one very good interception but he had 3 penelty's called on him including a facemask penelty for i think a total of 35yards.

On offence its a really tough call between Adrian and Drew Breeze. I think i'll edge towards Drew Breeze on this one.

On defence I'll have to go with Osi, 1st game back and he has a touchdown! long may that continue

Rookie, I'll have to go with Sanchez, of course the QB is so obvious and there were many other good rookie performances but I think having a win in game 1 of your career is very impressive.

Worst "Well Known" player of the week goes to Brandon Marshall, what did he do coat his gloves in butter, the man couldn't catch a cold! Goes to show what not practicing with a QB can do!

    Brees, Osi and Sanchez.

Honourable mention for John Carlson anyone?

I thought James Laurinitas done well too with 14 tackles in St. Louis. He's going to have a decent season
    Brees, Osi and Sanchez.

Yup. Looking forward to watching him this year!

Drew Brees, Osi Umenyiora (great return to action) and Sanchez.

Yeah Brees, Osi and Sanchez for me too.

AP is an absolute class act, one of my absolute favourite players in the league. But 6 Touchdowns is 6 Touchdowns, and there'll be few better performances in the league than that, for the rest of the season.

It was the Lions defense though.... and watching the highlights a fair portion of them were from blown coverage. Not taking anything away from Brees here, ya still have to take advantage of things like that to put up those kind of numbers and he did have a great performance.

Look for AP to run up 6 td's this Sunday though :D

    off - brees or AP
    def - troy polamalu
    rook - sanchez

any predictions for gameweek 2, yes i know its impossible to call but mine would be...

off - pieterson against the lions would be an obvious one, im gonna hope for a stormer from manning against an unpredictable dolphins

def - too hard to call, im not so caught up with defence as much as offense so

rook - well both sanchez and stafford are up against hard teams but i wouldnt write the jets off against the pats, so il go sanchez again.
