Insuring car for first time as soon as possible. I bough tinsurance and just got a temporary cover note from them. Will this be adequate to pay me car tax, or would i need the full insurance certificate? Also, the insurance commences at midnight tomorrow i.e. 17th september, so would i be wasting my time going qeueuing tomorrow? Thanks:D

you need the original insurance certificate. unless you doing it online, which i guess you cant because you only bought the car.

just wait for the cert to come out, then go into the tax office.

I don't get why they couldn't just send me the insurance cert. i had to ring them quinn as their site would't work, negotiated the price back down after they tried to charge me more, paid in full on the day. It's not like i don't want the insurance. Seems to me this country's system is a bit of a joke:mad:

i bought by phone. got some proposal and 'temporary cover note' from them today. says that if anything is wrong on the proposal send it back amended. doesn't say what to do if it's correct, just leave it another week see what happens? Basically they have me paying for two weeks of insurance that are no good to me

You do NOT need your insurance certificate with you for tax. All you need to do is fill in your policy number and expiry date on the RF100A . See section D of the notes. Also, don't waste your time queing, just post everything to your local motor tax office.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

thats the way insurance works over here, you get a quote and the quote is based on the proposal form being returned with any NCB.

you will get your cert in about a week i would imagine. but you do not pay for 2 weeks and have nothing, you oay for the full year and your insurance covers you for the full year, not just 50 weeks.

i was gong to suggest this to the OP too, but he said he wanted to go to the tax office tomorrow but his insurance doesnt start until midnight tomorrow night so technically he is not insured tomorrow and hence would be a waste of time going the tax office tomorrow. but he could do the application by post and will be grand.

As Buffman said, you do not need to produce the insurance certificate. You do, however, have to fill in your insurance details on the form.

Yep, because you don't need either of those for tax.;)

You timed it well to go in, middle of the month. Usually the first week or so of the month is manic in a tax office.
