just wondering what lads prefare to use when using shooting sticks,
    for lamping?
    stalking?
    daytime mooching?
its just that sometimes they seem to be more hastle than there worth,i know the tripod is steadier, but it more finiky to set up whereas the bipod is quicker to set up but less stable, just interested to hear lads veiws

i always use a bipod on my rifles, the prone shot off bipods with the binos under the stock ,its lights out.

i dont use sticks ,i tried them a few times and found them to be more a hindrance than a help.

what if your shooting in heather or long grass where you might have no choice but to take the shot standing

i use both to be honest.

As JW says you will always be steadier on the bipod in the prone position but it don't always work out that you can assume this position.
Some time they can be in the way a bit but more oftern I find them usefull going down a slope over a ditch or crossing a river - a handy third leg!!!

Also in the middle a purchase of sticks, twin or tripod!?

have shot with twin stick but not tripod,

can only assume the tripod is more stable???
bigger to carry and more to set up aswell though

any advice, will be shooting on varied terrain....

where has good value/choice for sticks, based in dublin?

would like to buy local rather than net, keep the business in Eire!

I have a tripod.excellent if not using 3rd leg just strap it to the side of one of the legs with velcro and you have a bipod,no extra hindrance, better to have and not need than need and not have

Harris bipod is the biz when lamping fox if shooting off jeep wall etc, but stalking tripod is good for long grass make a good platform a little hard to foot quickly in heather...... i got a gift of shooting sticks a bipod system they 2.5 ft long work a treat, sitting or kneeling for the shot.

at the end of the day its about placing a bullet accurately and dispatching your quarry quickly.so its what ever works for you use it

i would stalk in high heather long grasses where its hard to get a clear shot in but once you get to know your ground you will get to know every stone ,turf bank, vantage point is you never to bad.

    if in douth dont shoot.
