The EAA are using the same voting methodology as we use for the Boards Athlete of the Year, dirty copying inglorious basterds:pac:

Which reminds me, the Boards Athlete of the Quarter (July-Sept) will be decided soon, going to be a tough one for the judges and could also give an idea where Athlete of the Year may come from later in the year!!!!!

I'll be in touch through PM with the esteemed voting panel soon.

Great to see them nominated and taking their place in the elite of european athletics.

While I'd like to be patriotic, I find it hard to put our guys & gals ahead of medal winners like Idowu, Harting, Kosmus, Borchin, Domínguez, Vlasic, Wlodarczyk, Ennis. That's tough competition, especially on the women's side.

Interesting to see the stronger performance in the field events, did not realise how few european medals there were on the track - makes Domínguez performance seem all the better.

Delighted to see our two in there.

However I did not vote for them. I believe in voting for who I think was the best and not who I want to be the best (I always hated when thousands of 15 year old girls would sabbotage music awards so that Westlife would win).

So I'm taking bias out of this and here was my vote:

    Women:

    1) Blanka Vlasic
    2) Jessica Ennis
    3) Steffi Nerius
    4) Martha Dominguez
    5) Olga Kaniskina

    Men:

    1) Andreas Thorkildson
    2) Phillips Idowu
    3) Yaroslav Rybakov
    4) Bouabdellah Tahri
    5) Roman Mesnil
