Me mate got pulled in for having no tax on a car last week. He had been flouted the law a bit and his tax was out. It was a biker garda. The garda told him that the fine etc would go in the post.

That was a week ago but I told him he only has so many days to produce his tax in the garda station he would have nominated when stopped.

Me mate told me that the garda never mentioned anything about producing tax or anything only that the fine would go out in the post.

has the law changed recently about producing your tax?

No need to produce if he's not being forced to back tax his vehicle which can happen. €60 fine, no points if you pay up the fine within the time period stated on the fine. Depends on the Garda tbh.

I believe if you are not displaying your tax cert on the window of the car you are breaking the law. Not sure whether it is standard procedure to ask you produce your NEW tax disc within a certain period but I am sure someone else will know the ins and outs of it.

Was he done for no tax or for no display of tax? They're very different. Not displaying is an offence, even if you are fully taxed.

Get the car taxed, and pay the fine when it arrives.

Similar situation happened me, stopped for no tax, fined, never asked to produce, paid the fine, but then a few weeks later I got a court summons for not producing tax..got struck out but couldve been even more costly!!

There is no power to demand production of tax. That is only for insurance, license and nct/doe certs.

Although some Guards ask a chap to produce it to them in lieu of a ticket. In the interest of fairness like.
