came across this issue too. there seems to be a few work arounds on the web but I tried them and it didn't work for me. I didn't give it much time as I didn't get one for long but sure enough it will work in 10.5. they are using a java applet and it seems not to work in 10.6

For the record, O2 Broadband works for me on 10.6.1 with their O2-branded Huawei E1752 modem (white memory stick-type thingy).

No need for anything so drastic. Get the latest version of the applet, Mobile Partner (or whatever it's called) for Huawei (I did and no problems) OR simply bypass those crappy programmes altogether and just use the network pane in sys prefs/network to configure, putting the little modem symbol on the toolbar. I've used SL since the 28/08 and apart from initial hiccups with 3, have had no problems since using it with 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2.

I got 3's new "MiFi". Hopefully this will completely negate the need for drivers. It's €69 here on postpaid and £49 in the UK on prepaid and postpaid.

To cut a long story short, it's a tiny credit card sized 3G-enabled wifi hotspot. Think it weighs around 80 grams and has a built in 5-hour battery. You can plug it into a wall outlet or USB port to charge it.

Is the Irish version out? I would get the UK version but can't put my 3 Ireland SIM in it :-(

139€ on prepaid, dear God. I wonder if existing customers can upgrade to it?

Once you upgrade to 10.6.1 it fixes. To install from 10.6.1+ you can't run the installer app. U have to open the container file and search for the root app it'self

You have to install the files manually, then use the Network pane in Sys Prefs to dial *99#.

Too tired to post long guide.

    I'm using 3 mobile broadband (Huawei E169) on OS X 10.6.2.

Follow the instructions on this page:
    http://www.mactalk.com.au/2009/09/03/thursday-how-to-huawei-mobile-broadband-snow-leopard/

with the following changes for 3 ireland:

    Leave username and password blank
    APN is 3ireland.ie (not 3netaccess)

This definitely works and is much simpler then it might first appear!

Incidentally, am now using the new MiFi with Snow Leopard. No problem either via wifi OR connected by USB (doesn't even require "connect").
