Hey guys, i got the o2 broadband stick on trial last week. I paid a deposit of 75 euro for the three day trial which i'll get back when i return it. The man in the shop said it'd stop working after the three days but it's still working and it's been a week.. Does anybody know how long it'll work for?? and how will this affect my deposit?

I'd say if you're taking the piss, they'll just charge you for the excess usage.
They could also keep the deposit, but I doubt it unless you keep it for a week...oh.

The O2 USB modem must be returned to the same retail store where collected within 72 hours (excluding Sundays), in the same condition as on receipt, in working order and with all accompanying packaging and contents. Please repack the O2 USB modem in the original packaging including your proof of participation on the promotion. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of your deposit. ...

Fair Usage limits apply (1GB per loan period) and any usage over this limit is subject to excess charges of 2c per MB. Additional Charges may apply if you use the O2 USB modem for services other than the O2 Mobile Broadband Services. Roaming charges may apply.

    thanks for that..

the man in the shop said it didn't matter if it was returned a few days late as it'd stop working after 72 hours...

The man in the shop probably lied, and I'd say you are now on a 12 or 18 month contract. Considering you continued to use it after the 3 days, that would be deemed as your acceptance of the contract.

If you want rid of this, you should contact O2 right now. It's very unlikely that you'll get your deposit back.

You had 72 hours to return the modem, or you may forfeit the deposit. If you have gone over 1GB in total, they'll charge you 2c per MB. No mention of being locked into a contract, just the forfeit of deposit and charge for usage.

then this is what you must go with as it forms a verbal contract of sorts. if there is any problem when you go to return the modem just leave it with them in the store and write a letter of complaint to o2 telling them what you were told and requesting return of your deposit. add that any delay and you will be starting small claims court proceedings against the store.

he was signing you up for a 12 or 18 month contract and telling you that you could return it within 7 days if you changed you mind or if it was unsuitable etc.

so it looks like o2 are advertising a free trial lasting 3-5 days depending on whether you have it over the weekend but unscruplous sales agents are signing people up to contracts in store when they ask for the free trial and telling them they have 7days to return it if they want to just to make a little extra commission?

The Try Before you Buy is 72 hours with a €75 deposit.

The "7 day trial" is not an actual trial. It's the remorse period for entering the Broadband Contract, giving your bank details, proof of ID etc... You have 7 days from when you entered the contract to change your mind.
