You have to repeat that one module, which means the class you are in now goes into the next year, and you go to the class in the year before you.

So you repeat the year yeah, but just that one module.

The fees depend on if you repeat externally or internally.

Check the website. There is loads of information there.

Of course there is the option of appealing.

    Hi,

I just have a question to ask you if I may.

I have passed all my exams this year except one which was in semester 1; which was an introduction to Spanish . (which i was certified absent)

This is the only module that is outstanding, and therefore in effect - is an overall fail to progress to year two. Is there any way I can still progress to year two by passing this module or by compensation credits? Or perhaps you may have a suggestion as I feel I'm in a loop hole and with college approaching fast I'm quite anxious and unaware of what to do?

I emailed my (Spanish Lecture) although she is no longer in that department and my personal tutor has got a job in another university, never-mind the main person in charge of the course is away on holidays till the 28th (which is too late for me, although I thought this would be the best place to ask.

Can I progress to year 2?

    Thanks guys

You have to pass all modules to progress to the next year it would be very rare for a subject to be carried over.

I would say you will have to sit the exam at the next sitting which will be January which means you will not be able to progress to 2nd year till 2010. You will as far as I know still have to register for this module.

Try contacting the registry or Student Affairs if you can't get intouch with anyone from the course.

I agree. A guy I know said he failed one of his repeats in first year and he wet to his tutor and said he'd cop on this year and work. Basically begged to be let through to second year. As far as I know he did get through, so it might be worth a shot.

Thats great guys, thanks for your replies.

Okay; I contacted my head of school and student affairs (student affairs got back to me) I can not proceed to year 2, and have to repeat the year (just because 1 module in semester 1) which i was certified sick) is this just DCU or do other colleges do this? the only helpful person at DCU was student affairs, did not get replies from anyone else? including head of school.

Okay, next question. I am on the BETA and VEC grant... what happens if i need to repeat i module for semester 1 only? how much will this cost and can i get the BETA or VEC grant as i was very ill (and certified) ?

thanks for your help, pitty this information could not be provided by the college.

You shouldn't have to pay to repeat the module as you have medical certs to explain the reason you couldn't sit the exam the first time round.

You should still be able to get BTEA as you will still be a registered student. But your VEC grant will not be renewed until you progress into year 2
