Safe Bicycle Parking

It is great that cycling is beginning to be taking more seriously in Dublin at least, although other towns and cities outside of Dublin are not so progressive from experience.

I am a regular cyclist and use the bike as often as I can although it continues to amaze me that there is no real safe place to park a bike in Dublin city.

The city is littered with car parks but there is no designated safe parking place for bikes like many other European cities!

Does anyone know if there is somewhere safe to park a bike in Dublin?

Drury Street Car Park has converted their ground floor into bike parking. Not 100% secure but probably better than most areas.

Here, if you like that sort of thing.

    Thanks

But is it safe parking? It seems from the replies that nobody is sure!

Many European cities have bike parks where you pay a small fee and your bike is stored, when you return you key in a code and your bike is returned. There is no access for others to damage or remove parts etc.

I think it is the car park to the back of the Powerscourt centre sandwiched between Grafton street and Georges street

Was in town at 00:30 the other night and stumbled upon this place by fluke. I was wondering around in that general direction looking for somewhere to lock my bike. Funnily enough most places, street bike poles, lamposts etc etc were crowed with bikes. Drink cycling on the increase ? Anyway the place was completely empty, closes at 01:00 whereas most other carparks in town are 24hours.

Still, i imagine it would be a handy place to lock your bike when visting stephens green shopping centre etc (at an early time):)

Never knew that list existed. Its pretty handy to have. The 24hour temple bar carpark is called Fleet street carpark if someone wants to edit it. I havent got an account to do so

    Great, thanks for the list!

Does anyone know if any or all of these bike parks facilities are safe?

    They are all highly dangerous.

There are bike racks right outside Pearse Street Garda station.

I often lock my bike there as I like to think it gives some extra protection and Ive never had any problems. I do also have good locks though.

Could you please search boards or google in general on how to lock your bike correctly and about using at least one decent lock.
