Falling Down

Is it dangerous to hate humanity? Or is it just the way the director makes us sympathise with the protagonists on TV? Is there a difference? When all the world is played out on TV for our consumption, when 3000 people dying is just a TV show and they all walked away after some really cool special effects...? All the world is a stage...

    And the acting is ****ty.

dude if you dont hate humanity then theres something wrong with you

anyone with an iq higher than a haemorrhoid hates humanity

you just pretend to like certain individuals so you can have sex with them (or barring that with their sisters)

    hope this helps :)

I guess hating undesirable aspects of our race leads people to try to improve and progress.

Although I hate when someone lets a serious fart off in my vicinity, it doesn't make me want to stop my body's ability to fart...

    lol, epic.

You're right though; I find it extremely difficult how anyone with an ounce of intelligence can't see humanity for the plague that we are.

This planet has existed for billions of years, and our couple-of -thousand year existance will be the end of it.

tbh I pretty much consider falling down a perfect blueprint for my likely last day on earth.

9/11 wasn't special. It's just a big deal is made out of it.
They got patriot act through, the Bin Laden family were on one of the few planes allowed fly out of the country, instead of helping with inquiries about the black sheep of that family.

More people killed in the troubles up North.

Omagh bombing killed a greater % of the population of NI than 9/11 did to the US.

On average the US military have killed 3,000 civilians EVERY WEEK since the end of World War II

Bombings of Tokoyo during WWII were far worse

http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm - lists of US crimes and such

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falling_Down - great film , didn't like the ending though

Don't know where you got this figure from but you're way off. 29 people out of 1.5m < 2976 out of 280m

    29 out of 1.5m = 5413 (approx) out of 280mil

    so 29 out of 1.5mil > 2976 out of 280mil

No. Our couple of thousand year existence will be the end of Us. The earth will be here for quite some time yet and the only imprint we'll have left will be the extinction of a lot of large edible animals and a thin layer of carbon. By the time the next intelligent being evolves after us he'll never even know what we were capable of. He'll just think there were a lot of apes on the planet.

I'm not sure if ye are talking about that programme about the world trade centre videos that was shown on channel 4 last week (done in the style of "24")... but

Did I hear one guy on it saying "We should bomb Finland or one of those Arab countries!"

EDIT: It's on Channel 4 OD I'll have to look again..

I love humanity, my favourite animal is the human. It's always a shame people prefer to linger on the negative rather than see all the great things we've done in our short time here.

People seem to think every other living thing on the planet is some sort of noble creature in perfect harmony with every other living thing on the planet. Make no mistake, if a cow, ant, daffodil, lemur, blade of grass, e.coli, tape worm had the opportunity they'd kill you and your entire family without a moments hesitation. They'd also use the washing machine during peak hours and neglect to separate their waste into the correct bins.

they may find stuff in orbit

big holes in the ground and depletion of minerals

    empty oil wells

    megastructures / artifical waterways

    sunken supertankers

signatures of atom bomb tests and reactors and waste storage facilites

    dumps

Unlikely, it's hard to keep something in orbit without it wither crashing back down to earth or spinning off into space.
big holes in the ground and depletion of minerals

That would be a puzzler for them and probably the strongest evidence we where here. Although it'll probably take about a million years for another animal to rise up the ranks and more than likely much longer so maybe they'll be replaced or replenished? I'm not sure how long that kind of thing would take though.

Very, few human structures will survive no matter what they're made out of supposedly Mt Rushmore and something like the pyramids will last thousands of years maybe more, however the pyramids will disappear back under the dessert again. No modern building will last any amount of time, they require constant maintenance. Even stone buildings crumble into unrecognisable mounds over time as they're attacked by weather and micro organisms.

It's pretty shocking how quickly all traces of human existence would disappear if we weren't around.

Yep, Did you watch that Horizon special "After Us" or something like that? Very good show. I think they said Mt Rushmore was probably one of the few things to survive beyond 5000 years and other than that only some Bronze statues would survive

    FYP

Seriously, after last weekend's orgy of Guinness, bbq'd meats, garlic and onions, I let a fart go that will wander this earth *forever*

In all probability, it will plague the new intelligent beings like the cloud monster from Lost.

Ya it was a great show, the Americans did a version of it too that was just awful, they stretched it out into a series with less information, worse special effects and it was a documentary that actually made you more and more stupid the more you watched it. :pac:

so the pyramids shouldn't be around then ? ;)

remember a lot of the damage done to the pyramids was when the people of Cairo took stone from it to repair earthquake damage in the city.

we've recovered statues of tens of thousands of years old and stone tools far far older

The pyramids where rediscovered though weren't they? The desert will swallow them up if we don't keep them clean. This would preserve them, the desert is very good at preserving things.

If there was a major climate change though and that area became more fertile they'd quickly be destroyed by erosion and living things eating into them. The time scale needed for another living creature to get to the stage we're at now after we're gone means they're wide open to nature turning them into pulp. Even Mt. Rushmore may be eroded away by that time nothing more than a mountain that kind of looks a bit like 4 heads.

In 2000 years, the only evidence of humanities existance will be a few faded shopping bags, and a gaggle of Toyota Hilux' patiently awaiting the return of owners who never will...

    Is omnicide a crime?

    Kill 1 your a murderer.
    Kill 10 you're a madman
    Kill 100 you're a soldier.
    Kill 1000 you're an officer.
    Kill 10000 you're a leader.
    Kill 1000000 you're hero
Kill a million, you're a grandfather to the nation.
    Kill everyone, you're God.

The protagonist in Falling Down was fucking right, if that kind of rage and desolation could be channelled into something like kicking the shit out of certain political figures and general arse-faces then the world would be a better place. I personally hate the fact that everything is controlled by idiots, absolute idiots. Politics state agencies, banks, everything is controlled by ****ing idiots and we're the lemmings that have to put up with it. I'd tell ya give a me a LAAWs Rocket or RPG-7 anyday and there would be some changes made, either that or I get shot by the Gardai surrendering!:pac:

I look up on the rape of Nanking by the Japanese in WW2 and realise what a big F up the human race was then and now ..nothing much changes ..it's all Relevant.

And From one extreme to anohter ;)

Confomity used to be frowned upon .Then everybody slagged off the whole hippie movement ( including many hippes themselfs who realised other hippies were just into making big bucks out of it ) so that concept was killed .

So now were into the era of reality tv ,BB , Kate Price , Kerry Katona , Amy whinehouse a, Pete Docherty ......such a big let down

yeah were falling down ....maybe we all wanna be in a Tarintino movie or something ........Im ranting a bit ....:pac:

It's not reality TV until the losers are executed by public vote..

    Yup, totally destroyed the movie.

It was touted about an everyman who had taken too much.

Turns out he was just an abusive nutjob.
